The author segment of Amanpour tonight featured the author of "How Fascism Works". A couple takeaways:
When asked when the US might reach the point of no return, he said the US is there now. The corruption is so ingrained there is no way to unwind it. He offered an example: how can you tell a future President that he can't use the office to enrich himself to the tune of Billions of dollars, because Trump is doing it, and no-one is lifting a finger.
Another example: the GOP and SCOTUS, are tearing down the guardrails on Presidential power. The only way to understand that, is that the GOP expects there will never be a Democrat elected again. Given Trump's comments today about cancelling elections, or at least preventing any non-MAGA candidate running for office, that may be on the table.

It was a clusterfuck before this.
Now it's a grand clusterfuck.
And it's going to be even more, after this.
GOP this, GOP that, Dem this, Dem that.
But in the end, what a cluster Schvuck

The core issues are bipartisan: how would the assumption of dictatorial powers by the POTUS, and rampant corruption, ever be rolled back? I commented, during the Bush junta, that it took a world war to unwind the fascist regimes in Germany and Italy. How would the same trend in the US be unwound?

Tearing down the guardrails enabled the corruption. I don't think anyone perceived a dedicated force to ripping out checks with the power to install sycophants to do your bidding and ignore you graft, etc. And it's being ignored because a big chunk of us are pliable to become fascists. We crossed over a while ago.
Democrats will be elected, but will we ever be in a position to take the House, the Senate, and the Presidency? And just how do we limit the Presidents hire and fire power? Reigning in the National Guard is a limit, but no much.

As others have suggested, the recruiting effort by ICE, targeting goobers and gun crazies, could easily be converted to produce a force of brown shirts, to terrorize anyone who steps out of line. Pandering to bigots seems to be the regime's approach to falling approval ratings. The goal has moved from deporting some 20M illegals, to talking about revoking naturalizations, and raising the target to 53M. The latest bit from ICE talked about deporting 100M.

Before Trump came on the scene.
It was a clusterfuck and certain policies run amok - GAVE Trump political traction.
Trump multiplied the clusterfuck ---more than previous Presidents - for sure.
And he's doing so now.
Again - for me - not about party.
It's about punishment, tribalism, and punishment.
Party ? It's just another mechanism to divide---which I like. I long moved on to dividing WITHIN parties, between the castes and tribes :)
I can't be any more honest about whose fault it is.
But those who can only focus on GOP and Trump - are part of the problem.
And I thank them :)

It's a legit post BUT - it's also typical of the 50.1% thinking American who can't think beyond that.
Yes, Dems will win.
But - -it's too bad the vision isn't to win BIG -- and use that political capital to force buy-in from just a few Red legislators...and then do some big and structural things.
Keep playing checkers.

Trump went where no-one had, in recent memory.
Reagan used racist dog whistles, to flip the south to the GOP. Trump was the first, in my memory, to be openly, defiantly, proudly, racist. In the back of my mind, has been the thought, that his dalliance with the "birthers" was market research, to see if an openly racist campaign could get traction. We are living the result. He can get away with anything, as long as he shows his base brown people being beat up.

Remember: Covers almost everyone, cheaper than anything else available, and so on....

Always trying to distract from the pedophilia and the grift eh?
Why is that?
BTW, most Democratic policies are superior, especial when looked at accurately and not run through the Faux News liars that what to scare you and play to your fears. Stop being weak and do better. Be a better person just once in your life.

You're right. The last candidate that offered alternative policy, and got people really excited, was Bernie. But he was crushed by the party machine, and it's NeoCon lite candidate.

Certainly Bernie offered alternative policies, but that doesn't mean they were superior to a majority of voters. Bernie's enthusiastic support of Mandami is not improving his chances.

The only things that socialism/communism promote are hypocrisy and misery. That's it.

They were an alternative to the Dem/GOP NeoCon/corporatist, Trump/Hillary clones, whose loyalty is, first, to the donor class.

I clearly wrote socialistic aspects, so you are just dodging.
The nefster on those socialistic aspects:
Nordic countries blend capitalism with socialist-inspired elements, characterized by strong universal welfare states, high taxes funding public services like healthcare/education (often state-run), powerful unions coordinating wages, and high public sector employment, all within a market economy. Key socialist-leaning aspects include: extensive social safety nets (unemployment, pensions), strong worker rights, collective bargaining (corporatism), and significant government ownership in services like childcare, differing from classical socialism by retaining market efficiency.
Can't avoid it with a flop brush off.
No. of Recommendations: 2
They're not socialist.
The have Collectivist aspects to their societies.
Big difference, not that you know what that means.
The thing libs miss about the Nordics is that they have expectations on the people who get assistance. As in, you only use what you need and then get off of it.

And paternalistically racist Whites didn't help much.
Either way, it was racist White Liberals and 401K'ers who gave us Trump.
Had they just compromised a little bit, this all wouldn't be happening.
But when they INSTANTLY react to insinuations of blame or suggestion of compromise, that is the DOG WHISTLE to Leftists - where the revert back to paternalistic racism.
Instead of saying "ok, maybe we could've eased up a bit - here and there"
Well, the fun continues - I guess.
