Wonder what deal the Biden Crime family cut? You know Jill is getting a book deal and Hunter is getting a no-show board seat. The grandkids (except Navy, of course) will be getting some cash as will the deadbeat brother.

This “stunning moment” was years in the making, NBC.

Ahh, the misogyny.

If Harris is at the top of the ticket (still a very big "if"), I think the ticket would more likely be Harris-Shapiro or Harris-Cooper.

But we're in unchartered territory now.

Imagine the enthusiasm for democrats now. Orange Jesus must be shitting bricks.

POTUS can't "protect abortion". That's a legislative matter. So Congress would have to pass a law. Which isn't likely, unless we get Dem majorities in both houses (not likely).

By the way, you didn't provide a link anywhere in this thread...

The VP choice will be interesting. I'm assuming there will be an electoral college strategy, so likely someone from a key swing state.

First "Wimmenz," now "da Jooz." You're on fire. Sneak something in about "The Blacks" and you'll have the Racist/Sexist/Anti-Semitic trifecta.

The Dems can run on the economy. They can run on improved relations with our allies. Both suffered under Trump (though, to be fair, COVID did have an effect on the economy).

Yes, we can also run on the fascistic actions/statements the convict has been doing for 8 years. And, yes, abortion will be a "win" for Dems, so that will be on the list. But it's not the only thing. Not even close.

Don't know much about Whitmer, but from what I do know, she's pretty competent. So I wouldn't have an issue. But I'm not sure that would be the most strategic choice.

Trump is the oldest nominee in U.S. history and he looks like it and he sounds like it.

Isn't it interesting how the MAGA mind can be so easily molded and remolded?...

Umm, the Biden administration rebuilt and expanded the single most successful military and political alliance in Western civilization. And has financially and militarily crippled Russia for less than 5% of our defense budget without putting a single American in harm's way.

Crime rates have fallen dramatically and the murder rate in the lowest since the 1960s. In 2020 under Trump, the murder rate rose to the highest level since 1997.

Everyone in America who wants to work can find a job. The unemployment rate is 4.1% and was under 4.0% for the longest stretch since the Vietnam War. Biden and Harris added nearly 16 million jobs, a record for a four-year cycle.

Trump left office with a unemployment rate of 6.3% and lost 2.9 million jobs, the first net job loss since Hoover.

The first half of 2020 was the busiest ever for bankruptcy filings, led by a record number of retailers, restaurants and oil and gas companies seeking Chapter 11 protection. Hertz, retailers Neiman Marcus, J.C. Penney, Brooks Brothers and J. Crew and oil and gas firms including Chesapeake Energy, McDermott International and Whiting Petroleum went belly up. More than 400 major companies went bankrupt through Aug. 9, 2020.

Evidently your idea of prosperity was not being able to buy toilet paper, paper towels, diapers, canned goods, household appliances, flour, yeast, poultry, bicycles, and cars.

POTUS can't "protect abortion". That's a legislative matter.

Again, being too literal. I would *absolutely* campaign on abortion rights. Remind voters that Trump is very satisfied that his Supreme Court picks took away women’s rights. “Imagine what the next ones will do!” Remind people that Kamala is a sex-crime Prosecutor. Call him “Rapist in Chief” a few times and get under his skin. Remind people that Vance was loudly in favor of a national abortion ban until a couple weeks ago when he cravenly decided to hitch onto Trump’s behind.

My personal preference would be Pete, because he’s really smart and well spoken, but I’m pretty OK with Gretchen. She’s from Michigan, a swing state where the Democrats need help and where she’s popular, Dems having just climbed out of the hole there recently. A double female ticket would be a novelty, certainly, but it would galvanize women, and make the contest clear and distinct: two intelligent women versus two crazy MAGA men. I see that as a distinction I could sell. You would re-solidify the black vote, overwhelmingly take the youth and women vote, and concede the angry old rural men vote. Trump would peel off some Hispanics, but he’s already doing that with the macho-nacho thing.

“Abortion” is a big time winning issue for Democrats. Don’t pretend it shouldn’t exist. It does. The President appoints USSC justices. That’s enough to make it big.

Even if he was temporarily on oxygen, steroids, regeneron, etc as Trump was for Covid, and they said what they said, a few things covering for that situation would not be: bigoted, racist, malicious, bullying, treasonous, fear/hate/violence spreading.

Thanks for not calling me names.

I don't do that. I may call a movement (e.g. MAGA) names, but not individuals. Doesn't encourage discussion if we are flinging invectives at each other. I also won't insinuate that you are on drugs, or should be medicated, as others have done to me. Again, hard to discuss things.

As for "future prospects", we actually have the convict Trump's record to refer to. He ballooned the deficit, did nothing on the border -that was legal-, handled COVID poorly, strained our relationships with our allies**, was reluctant to stop an insurrection, denigrated our military and intelligence services...the list is really long. None of that is "security and prosperity". Biden has reversed most of that damage, and things are going pretty smoothly right now.

Harris likely would continue many of those policies, but I don't recall now what her campaign issues were in the primaries four years ago. I'm sure we'll hear about it in the coming days. Not that it will matter much to me since I will NOT(!!!) vote for a corrupt, racist, rapist, convicted felon suffering from dementia, who quite literally is a moron (i.e. not very intelligent) even prior to his dementia onset, easily manipulated by people praising him.

**I just read recently that NATO leaders are planning a "US abandons us" scenario in case convict Trump wins. That speaks volumes about their expectations.

This is where, I think, Democrats miss the point.

Covid happened. Covid negatively affected the economy. DJT is responsible for the existence of Covid, and no set of policy prescriptions that Trump could have implemented (or refrained from implementing) could have prevented Covid from having an enormous negative effect on on things like the workforce. Because Covid had a devastating effect on every economy in the world.

So most voters - correctly - assess Trump's economic record up through the end of 2019 or early 2020 - and don't ding him for the effects of Covid that were outside of his control.

From January 2017 to January 2020, the U.S. economy added 4.7 million jobs - rising from 159.6 million to 164.3 million. It's currently about 168 million.

The economy was doing pretty well under Trump before Covid hit - and Trump's not to blame for the impact of Covid on the economy. There's lots of things that Trump "owns" about the Covid response, but the fact that the labor force declined a lot during that time isn't one of them - because that happened everywhere, and would have happened no matter who was President.

But they blame Biden for inflation, which was also outside his control. That’s a weird double standard you’re promoting there.

It's true that most voters vastly overestimate the degree to which the President has any control - or even influence - over the economy. Voters typically think of a President's "economic record" as being the stuff that happened during their term, even though the President doesn't really cause or control most of it.

But voters (I think) intuit that something like a once-in-a-century pandemic (like Covid) is so obviously not the fault of the President that they don't include it as part of his economic record. Trump obviously didn't cause Covid in a way that's far more obvious than Biden not causing inflation - especially since economists generally believe that economic policies can contribute somewhat to inflationary pressures.

I'm not promoting that double standard - I simply believe that voters will apply that double standard. They'll blame Biden for inflation because they always blame Presidents for economic conditions that happen during their term in ordinary circumstances. They won't blame Trump for the economic effects of Covid because they understand that Trump didn't cause those economic effects. It's not fair, but pointing to January 20-January 20 figures for Trump isn't going to be a very effective message, because the Trump economy was actually pretty decent up through Q4 2019.

"So most voters (who failed economics class or are in a cult) assess Trump's economic record up through the end of 2019 or early 2020 - and don't ding him for the effects of Covid that were outside of his control." ~guy who failed economics class and is in a cult

So GW Bush had a wonderful economy, if we don't "ding" him for the effects of the Financial Crisis that were outside of his control.

And Herbert Hoover had a wonderful economy, if we don't "ding" him for the effects of the Great Depression that were outside of his control.

Because as soon as the economy goes south under a Republican President we stop counting.

How about that record setting $8 Trillion Trump added to the national debt, do we stop counting after $1 Trillion?

Hey - I didn't fail economics class! And I think Trump is vile and loathsome and would happily vote for anyone other than him.

But I think if you went out to voters and said, "Boy, Trump is really bad on economic matters because the U.S. workforce lost six million jobs between February and May of 2020. What kind of bad President does that to their economy?" the voters will almost certainly think you're being foolish. Because the voters know that what happened to the job market between February and May of 2020 had nothing to do with Donald Trump or his economic policies. In a way that they don't know about W and the Great Recession (or Hoover and the Great Depression) - because those sorts of economic crises can be affected (though not actually caused) by the economic policies of the U.S.

How about that record setting $8 Trillion Trump added to the national debt, do we stop counting after $1 Trillion?

Nope. I'm not excusing Trump for his economic policies - just pointing out that the reason voters trust Trump on the economy more than Democrats is because during the pre-Covid part of his Administration, the economy was doing pretty well. Debt was high, but voters generally like running debts to pay for current goodies.

---------------------

Which proves most voters are morons. If the average voter can appreciate the economic damage a once in one hundred year pandemic can do to an economy and society...

...but NOT simultaneously comprehend that the same economic stress just acknowledged then ignored with the wave of a hand is capable of producing inflation through the instant "square wave" impact on supply and demand in a world economy dependent on global shipping, then the average voter is in fact a moron.

Also, the presence or absence of ANY individual in the White House during the COVID outbreak was never going to dictate whether the country somehow magically escaped ANY cases or even made the difference between zero and ten thousand deaths or between fifty and one hundred and fifty thousand deaths. However, Trump's personal unwillingness to grasp the exponential spread of the disease led to a completely haphazard national response strategy in the early weeks before more aggressive international travel restrictions were imposed.

Remember the Italian cruise ship that incurred an outbreak in the first few weeks? The cruise that ended with an entire planeload of Americans BOARDING a CHARTERED plane with hints of symptoms in Italy, and LANDING in America with full-blown symptoms? Passengers who were allowed to traverse inbound US Customs like ANY other incoming international passengers, then fly directly to multiple hub airports across the country? That single plane load of roughly 400 Americans who, by landing, were likely 100% infected literally injected the virus into every major metropolitan area within 24 hours, on March 20, 2020, before any lockdowns had begun.

A more coherent national response strategy, directed by a White House focused on public safety rather than Presidential perceptions of political concerns, might have quarantined those passengers prior to Customs and kept literally 30-40 "seeds" from widening the spread throughout the country. How crucial could such a time shift have been to the overall impact in the US? Any DELAY in incurring higher rates of infection would have DELAYED the point at which higher volumes of severe patients overwhelmed hospitals and exhausted supplies required to protect patients and staff. More importantly, delaying the mathematical surge by a month or two would have shifted more of that wave into the period where vaccines were widely available, beginning in February 2021. Remember, America had more people die of COVID after vaccines were available than in the pre-vaccine portion of the cycle.

Is Trump responsible for the COVID virus? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Is Trump uniquely responsible for its impact of death on the United States? ABSOLUTELY.

OCD: obviously, DJT is not responsible for the existence of Covid.

No one I am aware of thinks Trump was responsible for the existence of Covid.

However, he is responsible for the response to Covid. And his response, by any measure, was abysmal.

Keep telling you but you will not hear. Security and Prosperity.

Keep telling you, but YOU will not hear: Trump provided neither.

Poorguy.... I think he's telling you he's one of the gullible's who willingly gobbles the lies, again, despite strong evidence that they will just be lies again.

"But they blame Biden for inflation, which was also outside his control. That’s a weird double standard you’re promoting there."

Sure is, when gas prices peaked in 2022 MAGA Ding-dongs in my area actually put stickers on gas pumps that read, "Joe Biden Did This."

As if the President controls all the prices of commodities on the planet. Facepalm...

I agree he is responsible for the response to Covid, and that it was abysmal in terms of public health.

But those abysmal responses had terrible public health impacts. They weren't the reason why the labor force collapsed between February and May of 2020.

DJT is responsible for the existence of Covid - 1pg

-----------------

I can picture Trump in a crisp white level four bio-containment suit, emblazoned with TRUMP in big Gold letters across the back, laboring away in a Wuhan lab, orange hair more pungent than usual against the white everywhere lab environment. We listen carefully as he speaks through the microphone from inside.... "Just look at this", pointing to the projection from on the scanning electron microscope, "it's beautiful, this is the best virus ever, nobody but Trump could create such a magnificent virus, a perfect virus, the spike proteins form a little crown around the nucleus, it's the King of viruses....."

Better if they would just meet their spending commitments, then Trump would not be on their ass.

This year, 2024, NATO countries will be spending over 2% of their GDP supporting NATO, which is ‘the spending commitment.”

Let’s see what Trump has to say about NATO in light of that:

“Let Russia do whatever the hell it wants”

“Look if they’re not going to pay we’re not going to protect”

“We should make Ukraine take a loan. Why would you just hand it over to them?”

I think your information, not to mention your thinking, is a little out of date.

Perhaps. I could say you are taking Trump a much too literally <and leaving out context>. I submit he will not abandon NATO but continue to hound them to increase their defense spending and cut their energy dependencies on Russia. All Trumps bluster is intended to keep the pressure on and to remind them the USA is no longer anyones piggy bank.
