as expected, turbotax's own AI feature is beyond useless.
this year i used free external AI (chatgpt mini) to address 2 common (every year !) situations in turbotax.
check your privacy mode settings for any data pasted in...it never needs names or ID numbers.

a. to check against obvious mistakes in phrasing\terminology in the interview and turbotax worksheets.
(what # or code are they really asking for?)

b. to compress a long list of transactions into a single line entry.
(in case you do not get consolidated statements, or are not able to import)
since turbotax decided the 2026 value-detract feature will forbid edit\corrections to imports, it is a critical timesaver for manual entry.

c. to check turbotax's vague notes on deduction eligibility

if you are happy with results, i suggest you prompt for and save the detailed process used for documentation.

on a broader note, i am certain gop's gutting of the irs will result in huge revenue loss from the wealthy...which trump would have wasted anyway.
but i am not so sure cutting corners on the 1040 for the non-1%ers will receive the same neglect if targeted on political views by the revenooers.
