No politics tonight- we just had a blow as a storm came through earlier. 60-70 mph gusts. Trees down but we were lucky; we only lost a bunch of good sized branches. One of them ripped away from our linden tree and ended up in the neighbor’s yard 50 yards away
Quiet now. We’re preparing for a morning of picking up sticks and branches. Not exactly on our bingo card for the 4th, but life had other plans than ours.
One funny aspect of the evening…. before the storm hit, the wind was picking up and I ran out the side door, crossed the driveway and removed the spinning, decorative windmill from its pole. On my way back to the house, I looked up and saw our little 11 pound dog, staring at me through the storm door. She’s fearless in storms; they’ve never bothered her, but she was growling, whining and yipping in such a way that I swore she was telling me, through her canine vocalizations, “Get your ass back in the house, you stupid idiot.”.
My wife and I have always thought that she herds us.

Yes, still up. Not much wind here in Annapolis, Maryland, but plenty of heat!
But as they say in MAGA-land, it's not the heat, it's the humility. 😉

Very quiet here. No storms. One of our famous spectacular sunsets (which implies there was a lot of dust in the air, but at least at our house, there was no wind to stir it up).
Not looking forward to tomorrow. There seem to be a handful of yahoos on every street in the area that like to set off their own fireworks. Most of them are just noise; not even pretty. Pop-bottle rockets, firecrackers, and the like. A few Roman candles. The neighborhood will stink for hours (gunpowder), and bit of firework paper will litter the streets and yards (we always have some that ends up in our backyard).
And, occasionally, some serious knuckleheads will shoot guns into the air. Thankfully, not too many around here. But I have heard a few gunshots over the years...you can tell the difference when you hear it.

We had a storm like that blow through about 3 pm. I was driving and the car was being blown around. A pick up with a small empty trailer ahead of me was swinging all over the road. I stayed well back. A friend who lives about 3 miles away posted a video of it.
https://bsky.app/profile/justagirl52.bsky.social/p...The sound of the wind upset my wife who only gets upset when I do something stupid. There were some small limbs down, but I didn't see any trees down near our house. I'll be checking the woods this morning. I'm hoping none of the roots gave out, and that was a prelude to the end of this ugly heat and humidity we've had for the past few days.

I thought they said "climate change is a hoax"?
