I rather expect a future like the evolution of TV. First the ads. Then too many ads. Then ad blockers/avoiders.
...
Why? Changing from an 'AI with ads' to 'AI with no ads' is as easy as going to the site itself in the first place (e.g. navigating to gemini vs chatgpt).
Why would someone stay and keep watching more and more ads?
Why would they go to the problem of an adblocker when it's 10x less effort to just use a different AI and they all work the same anyway?
Because all the providers will do it so switching gets you no improvement, just a different set of ads or paid content. Classic enshittification. (which is not just "things get worse", but a specific economic development process*)
All of them except, as in my prediction, a few that charge through the nose for an ad-free product, likely dominated by business users.

* Ever notice that the ad-supported Netflix streaming service costs more than the original no-ad service did when it started? (or about the same in inflation-adjusted terms)
