“Jesus says very clearly at the end of the world, we’re going to be asked, you know, how did you receive the foreigner? Did you receive him and welcome him or not? And I think that there’s a deep reflection that needs to be made in terms of what’s happening.”

It’s from The Onion, of course, but not without a grain, even a boulder of truth.

DETROIT (AP) — Two 20-year-old men who had acquired high-powered weapons and practiced at gun ranges were scouting LGBTQ+ bars in suburban Detroit in September for a possible Halloween attack, authorities said Monday in filing terrorism-related charges.
Mohmed Ali, Majed Mahmoud and co-conspirators were inspired by the Islamic State group’s extremism, according to a 72-page criminal complaint unsealed in federal court. Investigators say a minor, identified only as Person 1, was deeply involved in the discussions. As always with these thing, We May Never Know The Motive.

The media is trying to spin this case as a copycat version of the Paris attacks. Seems the closer analogs would be the attack on the Pulse club in Orlando, by Omar Mateen, and the Club Q in Colorado Springs by Anderson Lee Aldrich. Maybe because the media wants to feed the Islamic boogyman, vs white people angle, as that would frighten more people than religion inspired assaults on gay people. The fact that Aldrich was a Mormon also does not advance the Islamic boogyman angle.

...because that's what one of the would-be attackers said. It's pretty clear what their motives are and why they're picking the targets they're picking.
