A Big Announcement Is Coming This Week. Americans Should Be Nervous.
A respected annual report on freedom around the world could deliver a shocking rating to the United States.

/snip

The nations of the world are divided into three categories: free (a score between 70 and 100); partly free (a score between 40 and 69), and not free (0 to 39).

Freedom House has been issuing this report since 1972, and the United States of America has, of course, always been rated free. In the report released in 2025, which actually covered the calendar year 2024, America scored an 84. Not up there with Sweden (99) or Canada (97) or the U.K. (92), but not bad. We finished fifty-fourth. (It’s worth noting that a lot of the countries that had better scores are very tiny—Palau, Tuvalu, San Marino.) The U.S. score has been declining in recent years; in 2006, the first year Freedom House used the current 100-point scale, we got a 93.

with regards to 'economic freedom', there are ~3 major sources. perth tolle is an excellent manager that runs a fund on this strategy.

the latest and most frequent is from allianZ, which can whiplash if it captures a major negative followed by a quiet period. but all major sources are expected to downgrade under trump, and those like fraser point to longer lasting trends.

"...assessments resulted in the upgrade of 36 economies, including Argentina, Ecuador, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Türkiye and Vietnam, while 14 countries were downgraded, among them Belgium, France, Senegal and the US."

It will erase for sure.

Partially due to a culture that watered down civics and common history - a long time ago. Someone used to say on TMF that these will be small reasons why it'll be easy to harm freedoms and individual rights.

But then again, there's no shortage of assault on freedoms.

*Some want to take the freedom to own a firearm.

*Some were calling for "Fairness Doctrine" and free speech

*Some are ostracizing people just for using words that are deemed "offensive"

*Some want to dictate what kind of toilet people shit in, or what kind of car they can and can't drive.

*Some want to interfere with abortion rights.

*Some want to force people to eat certain foods, not eat certain foods.

*Some want to control free speech via political donations despite SCOTUS rulings.

No shortage of reasons as to why freedom is eroding.

And - due to bad culture, and more and more citizens who have no clue what their rights are, how those rights were obtained and why they are important..... it's easy for the Ruling Class, or for Demagogues -- to usurp them.

O Say, Can you see?
