Jeff wrote, "If you dress in these authentic clothes and walk through downtown Sydney, you will attract the same sort of comments as walking through New York City wearing a loin cloth and an American Indian feathered headdress. Perfectly matched – but for another venue."
Salvador Dali, the Surrealist painter, complained that he wasn't noticed in NYC when he walked down the street wearing a pumpkin on his head. He was often frustrated or amused by the fact that in a city as chaotic and diverse as New York, his most "surreal" efforts to shock people were often met with total indifference by busy commuters.
He famously remarked on the city's "surrealist" nature:
"I am the only one who is not a New Yorker. In New York, everyone is crazier than I am."
So feel free to wear your "full Aussie drover" getup in NYC. At least you will be warm and dry. LOL!
