underway in china is a new experiment in global corporate strategy, which very few nations have ever been able to consider.
according to the article, it is driven more by culture than by CCP subsidies.
rather than simply enter the most economical step(s) of a complex high value product, the concept is to own nearly every step and drive the margin of the end product to commodity-type profit for dominance.

this deflation is an existential threat for some of the most powerful western companies, even if they can survive the short-mid term with hastily enacted protectionism alliances.

am unsure to what extent this strategy can succeed, because of :
1. china's own multi-pronged economic woes, some also a by product of culture
2. the global market for china will shrink in a multi-polar future, exacerbated by demographic loss for internal consumption

Irrational. Interesting idea at first, but the practicality is China lacks the resources and the technical capability to create, manage, and deliver in all areas. I could see 5-8 areas, but once beyond that point, the demands of each desired targeted area would overwhelm their ability to properly manage them all to deliver the desired products. They are essentially trying to "Jack Welch" their economy--when it so obviously failed with GE (and many other companies).

recent news on such protectionist alliances.
effectiveness unknown, even without pervasive trump distrust.
