The money quote:
'if ignorance is a disease, Harvard Yard is the Wuhan wet market.(Covid came from that lab, but this is still a great line)
He throws in some jabs at Republicans, but that's not who the target is:
There are few, if any, positives to come out of what happened in Israel, but one of them is opening America's eyes to how higher education has become indoctrination into a stew of bad ideas. Among them, the simplistic notion that the world is a binary place where everyone is either an oppressor or oppressed.
In the case of Israel, oppressors being babies and bubbas, the same students who will tell you that words are violence and silence is violence were very supportive when Hamas terrorists went on a rape and murder rampage worthy of the Vikings. They knew where to point the fingers, at the murdered and then it was off to ethics class.
Now I recognize that a certain amount of foolishness is expected of college kids. But mixing Jagermeister and tomato juice isn't the same as siding with terrorists. 34 student groups at Harvard signed a letter that said the apartheid regime is the only one to blame, proving they don't know what constitutes apartheid. They don't know much of anything, actually.
But it doesn't deter them from having an opinion. They've convinced themselves Israel is the most repressive regime in history because they have no knowledge of history or even a desire to know it. And actual history doesn't come up in their intersectionality of politics and gender queer identities class. And what about woke college Presidents, who never miss a chance to run to a microphone every time somebody gets misgendered?
The fact that college presidents who usually love to speak out about anything couldn't find their voice to condemn the worst attack since the Holocaust. There's a lot about who really controls colleges and why if ignorance is a disease, Harvard Yard is the Wuhan wet market.https://www.mediaite.com/news/bill-maher-says-repu...

Our daughter said they are both wrong, and they are. Like me, she sympathizes with the innocent civilians.
The Palestinians have endured apartheid-like oppression, but that didn't happen in a vacuum. Blowing up buses and pizza parlors, sending rockets into Israeli cities... One cannot expect the Israelis not to take steps.
Each side can provide a list of atrocities of the other side, and they both are right. And wrong. Trying to determine who started it is probably pointless. It's just a neverending spiral of mayhem.
It is not "woke" to recognize that this situation is very complex. The attack this month was another atrocity, but it didn't happen in a vacuum. I agree that every member of Hamas should be killed. Every last one. But not all, nor even most, Palestinians are Hamas. Again, it is not woke to recognize this.
The primary difference I see is that Hamas does not accept the existence of a Jewish state. As long as they maintain that position, they are arguably more wrong than the Israelis. Neither can expect the other to go quietly into the night. They both have to accept the existence of independent states for the other. We're a long way from that. So a lot of Israelis paid the price, and a lot more Palestinians will also in the coming months. And the list of grievances on both sides will grow.

Me too. I think most normal people are abhorred by the carnage of war, any war, this war.
However there are a lot of people who express no sympathy at all for the 1,400 killed and 4,500 injured in the Oct 7 sneak attack by Hamas on unsuspecting Israeli innocents. Toss in some barbaric executions and abuse of the corpses. Plus the agony inflicted on the families of the kidnap victims.
Who could not condemn these people?
I will tell you who: Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, brainwashed college students all over the country, Islamic agitators all over the world. These people can regularly be seen on the news, marching, sitting in, chanting, bullhorns, "Death to Israel, Death to the USA, Death to Jews, Long Live the Intifada, From the River to the Sea".

This. A number of folks on this board are having issues with that...

Our daughter said they are both wrong, and they are. Like me, she sympathizes with the innocent civilians.I think there's some missing context.
Namely, these:
1. Gaza has been free from the Israeli occupation since IIRC 2005. What have they been doing since then?
There are large natural gas deposits just offshore. Why aren't using that?
Why do they have what amounts to zero economy?
Why have they built literally nothing resembling a functioning society since then?
2. What precipitated this current state?
Hamas sent dozens of terrorists inside Israel. Once there, they did this:
https://themedialine.org/top-stories/evidence-on-d...Warning: Graphic images.
During the initial press conference, the forensics team showed images from their investigations. Among the images were those of charred hands with marks that revealed where the victims' hands were bound behind their backs with metal wire before being burned alive.Hamas terrorists even bound a parent and child together with metal wire, then burned them both alive. They couldn't tell what the mass they had was until they did a CT scan on it.
That's what Israel is up against. With all due respect to your daughter, there is no "both sides" here. The Israelis have been telling the Gazans to leave for over a week now.

That line rings in the ear like Limbaugh or Trump....
"Many folks are saying... blah blah blah......many people... the democrats believe.. the left believes.... many folks are saying."
One is "A number."
