New subject line as the Nebraska story has its own arc. IMHO one of the best short pieces John Updike ever wrote was for the New Yorker, about Ted William's last game:

Thanks for posting that. Updike was such a fine, fine writer. I'd say underappreciated but he was awarded every major literary prize except for the Nobel. Maybe "forgotten" is more accurate.
