iirc the Taliban had been quite successful in suppressing the drug trade. Then the US took over, and decreed different priorities.

Thanks for the reply and for entertaining it Steve -- I sort of knew you'd have some insight on this one.
I will say this----at first I thought ---ok, here we go. CIA wants to line pockets BUT -- if what the guy said is true----that the heroic goes to Iran and Russia----not saying that's honorable---but at least ---there's some strategy -self serving ---but still -- a freaking point to it.
