I'm in need of the expertise of the community.
Dad was enrolled in Hospice on April 5. My brother signed the paperwork, and spoke with the facility administrator, the nursing director, and the nurse practitioner assigned to the facility.
On April 8 he got a call from the local hospital saying Dad was in the ER. Brother asked why since Dad was enrolled in hospice, so the hospital sent Dad back to the facility.
Now we have a $6,000 bill from the hospital because Medicare won't pay since Dad was enrolled in Hospice, and Hospice won't pay because they weren't consulted with the ER visit.
Has anyone dealt with something like this?

Who authorized transporting to the ER? I'm assuming he wasn't ambulatory to do it himself.
Whoever did (e.g. the facility) should be responsible. Mom's facility was quite familiar with hospice care, and knew what to do (and what not to do). If they had sent her to the ER, I'd be raining down all over them.

What a mess!Is there an Office of Aging in the local government? If there is, perhaps they can provide guidance on how to handle this.

I spoke with a medical billing specialist recommended by our eldercare lawyer. She said start with appealing it through the insurance.
If that doesn't work I can hire her to get involved.
What a mess indeed!

So good that you've gotten guidance. To monstrously unfair though. You've been through so much, and now to have to make special efforts to counter the residence's failings. They should pay you reparations!
