Hegseth’s surprise gathering of top military brass is to deliver speech on ‘warrior ethos,’ sources say

The meeting is expected to resemble “a pep rally” where Hegseth will underscore the importance of the “warrior ethos” and outline a new vision for the US military, said three of the sources. He is expected to discuss new readiness, fitness and grooming standards the officers are expected to adhere to and enforce.

“It’s about getting the horses into the stable and whipping them into shape,” said a defense official familiar with the planning. “And the guys with the stars on their shoulders make for a better audience from an optics standpoint. This is a showcase for Hegseth to tell them: get on board, or potentially have your career shortened.”

In recent years, Hegseth, an Army veteran, has repeatedly expressed disdain for general and flag officers, accusing them of being responsible for injecting “woke” politics into US military culture.

iirc, Hegseth's running narrative, for all the women, POCs, and supporters of DEI, that he has relieved of duty was he was pushing a "warrior ethos".

A piece from the Christian Science Monitor, from last April. The last paragraph is interesting.

As Hegseth touts ‘warriors’ and ‘lethality’ to flex power, some weigh risk to soldiers

And if orders are illegal, or if, for example, the risk to troops posed by newly prescribed rules of engagement is too great – “if [the commanders] have a moral problem with it, because, again, it’s not a question of legality,” Mr. Sadler of The Heritage Foundation says – then those commanders have another option.

“They need to resign and then make a very public statement,” he adds. “That’s how that’s supposed to play out.”

Could be the new marching orders are to show all the care and concern about collateral damage that the Israelis are showing in Gaza. And anyone who doesn't want to comply, is invited to resign, on the spot.
