In fact, if particles of DNA from vaccines were to make it into the nucleus (they don't), they don't have enzymes which are integrases necessary to be combined with the host DNA. So there are multiple reasons why they cannot combine with the host DNA. But that's completely ignored by RFK and Co. So we are being set up for slaughter, bad health, and misery by a minority because the President doesn't care. It plays to his base.

Who gave the minority - the power?

Once the people who did it decide to take off the white hood, look in the mirror, decide that they want to participate in democracy and by default, the opinions of other voters matter.....maybe the minority wouldn't rule.


PS: Even with a Dem "win" in 2026 and 2028 look around, will you truly be in power? Maybe Trump will pick RBG to replace Sotomayor---ya think?

About 8% of the people are hard core anti vax, with another 14% who are "sometimes". Even I consider whether it's necessary in order to push my Doctor past his own judgement of "it isn't necessary" for me. I didn't push on RSV as it seemed to not really be necessary, but IIRC 1pg got it, and I think he was prudent.

Knew an anti vaxxer who declared he'd never been sick a day in his life. Swore up and down he'd never been vaxxed by his Mom. Most people don't know if they're Mom got them vaxxed as toddlers, no memory, I told him. A year later he got shingles and changed his tune. He realized he had to have had chicken pox to get shingles, and shingles was soooOOooo painful it got past the ego and he realized he didn't know.

I occasionally pop over to TMF to ask questions. AJ is still there, for example. And -rarely- albaby makes an appearance. I came across a post by btresist regarding mRNA. For those who don't know/remember, he's a research geneticist of some sort. Basically, the mRNA isn't really a problem. It can't mess with DNA (as you just said also), and is effective in getting the immune system to attack it (which is the whole point of a vaccine). He didn't comment on it, but I did read an article that indicated the mRNA vaccines don't generate long-lasting antibodies (i.e. it wears off after a while, unlike smallpox or polio). I don't understand why that would be, but I'm not a geneticist or immunologist.

As an adamant vaccine recipient - I agree 100% and take all the words you wrote as true and serious.

You are obviously intelligent, curious, health conscious and i just want to offer this to you:

But please---play chess. Not checkers. Who gave TRUMP power? I don't care enough to write a long post but i'll just say - the factors that caused Trump's rise were in the makings since the 60's. And SOME of it - by golly, I'm glad certain barriers got taken down. I'm glad my college bound daughter can now DECIDE if she wants career, or white picket fence mom-hood, or both. I'm GLAD the myriad of of non white relatives can flourish in all sorts of arenas.

BUT also..... many socioeconomic trends pushed many Americans aside, and pushed them down. And over the cycles nobody gave a shit about them. Democrats offered them food stamps. Republicans went to NASCAR races and said aw-shucks 100 times. But these people got poorer, more scared, more pushed into a corner, they were told to be demure, quiet, apologetic. And now - all they got is their mullet, tattoo, and dual income check-to-check life where "I made my bills this month" is the American dream.

Trump is a fake-fuck. But he wisely, smartly catered to these people. He "gave them good .....ear" when NOBODY ELSE did. He is to a segment of America, what Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are to a certain other segment of America.

Until you can at least establish a dialogue with these Americans. Until you can maybe have one nation again, not a mosaic of castes and tribes.....people like "anti vax" will cling to their tribe, and their tribal Muftis will use it for ratings, pod-cast audience, and a supply of pussy - no different than the hills of Afghanistan or Pakistan. No different.

First step is truly believing that these Americans are equal Americans, and deseve the *same* open mind that Liberals enthusiastically will give Al aqaeda sympathizers. "Why do they hate us". "how did we cause their plight" - shit - give 25% of that - to Americans for a change.

THEN it's to recognize that SOME 401k/Wallstreet/College-Grad socioeconimic trends have NOT benefitted even close to a majority of people despite dumb fuck google links posted here.

I was at DD's choir concert few months ago. A young blind kid had his own special-needs aid escort him to his instrument and he played like a pro. Obviously, you don't campaign on that. The now-infamous "basket of deplorables" is a great example of that. It's actually true, but you don't say that out loud.

I interpret that statistic to mean that we need to better-educate our population. For a while, we had a great system. Not perfect, but great. Public education was one of the best ideas we ever had, and literacy skyrocketed. The GI Bill sent record numbers of people (mostly men, to be honest) to college. We had well-educated populace. And now there are forces tearing it all down because [reasons].

Given the circles I moved in, I was mostly exposed to well-educated people. But the statistics seem to indicate that the population as a whole is becoming less so. The stats say that basic literacy is declining. You can't have a working democracy if the people that vote don't have a decent education.

And as long as people vote for Reps whose primary campaign cry is "tax cuts!", it will just get worse. Those tax cuts have made the rich richer, concentrating wealth in the top few percent. Taxes must go UP for the higher income levels. Obviously, that's just one bit of a larger problem. But it's important.

Agreed. Or, even better, add a public option onto that. "You can do your ACA, or you can sign up for non-senior Medicare. Our overhead is less, and we are not for profit."

But there are forces working against all of this. While college certainly isn't necessary, forces on the right demean college-educated people. Forces on the right say taxes on the wealthy are too high, and so they have no money to create jobs for them (i.e. "trickle-down"...which doesn't work, and never has worked no matter how many times they try it). Etc.

Elements of the media have been weaponized, and become propaganda machines. We don't believe experts anymore because the media says "nah, that can't be true". My neighbor told me he ingests a few grains of crystal bleach (or maybe it was Drano...I forget now). He said it helps keep him healthy. I pointed out that it is poison, and he said something like "don't believe all that...it's just a few grains". We don't believe our doctors anymore because some orange fool recommended injecting bleach, or ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID, or some other nonsense.

I'm not being elitist saying that I probably know more about astronomical gamma rays than anyone on this board. In fact, 30 years ago I was an "expert". I'm out of date now, of course. Some people study a topic thoroughly, and become "expert". That's not a bad thing, and it is not a comment on people who didn't study that thing and aren't experts. Heck, I want the "expert" pilot flying my plane. I want the "expert" engineer building the bridge I drive across. I want the "expert" surgeon operating on me or 1poorlady (which really happened, to both of us). When "experts" speak, I listen. Because, in all likelihood, I'm not an expert in their field, and won't pretend to know more than they do.

I liked talking photography with him, but as I recall he had some pretty harsh political ideas. But he wouldn't have been suspended for those, as long as he expressed them politely. I know one poster was banned for a racist rant (anti-semitic?). Won't name names.

At least he can still use a computer. 1poormom, when we committed her to a "retirement home" had already forgotten how to use a computer. Initially I thought she was just confused by it, but then I realized she had forgotten how to type (e.g. she had a capital letter in her password, but she was pressing "s" and the letter instead of "shift" and the letter). When we moved her to independent living, I had to keep her computer. It just would have been clutter, and possibly a source of frustration. When she went to assisted living, she couldn't turn on her TV. We kept that also when she moved to memory care.

Whatever disagreements we may have had politically, I hope he's not going down that path. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Well, with a very few exceptions (like Kim Jong Un or Putin).

I changed my board name from totolapse to BringAJback in protest. He never brought up politics on his FB. IIRC he had been behind the Communist lines before the USSR broke up and supplemented his food supply by fishing when they couldn't see him. He didn't care for the fish, but had to eat, so he never eats fish now. He played volleyball down at the beach till he had an operation, gained a little weight, and slowly deteriorated into the nursing home, but still a good sense of humor. I miss the humor board, it was a constant source of amusement to me. He never made any antisemitic or racist comments while I knew him, but we stayed away from our different politics. He's one for risque humorous photos that include him, he knows how to photoshop well.

He's evidently to the point now where posting on FB can be puzzling to him. But he still has that good sense of humor. :)

No, the hate-speech was someone else. Not AJ. Again, I won't name names. I'm sure many people here remember the incident. I never saw the post because it was quickly deleted, and the poster was banned. I just heard about it in the conversation "you heard that he was banned?".

I remember his risque photos. They were moderately amusing. But his serious photography was much more interesting. He did some really fine work. One photo in particular I remember was a pothole filled with water, but the reflection in the water was of fall trees. With a few leaves on the ground around the pothole, it was an amazing -but simple- shot.

AJ had a raft of good pics, but he also wrote about 7 novels, self published mysteries, and he's a good writer. I read two of them. Believe me, if I read a second novel, you're good. He lived down the coast from me and I made a special trip to see him. It's a shame we get old, that's just about when we're really interesting.
