As I understand the mechanics, the notion that Biden was "forced out" is preposterous. As the sitting POTUS, only impeachment can do that (or the 25th Amendment). That didn't happen.

As the nominee for the next election, per the Dem bylaws, the delegates were already committed to Biden and couldn't change their votes. He had enough delegates. He wins the nomination. No mechanism to "force him out".

He decided on his own to drop out and release his delegates. There was a lot of pressure from several directions, but it ultimately was his decision.

There is some question about Harris inheriting the delegates (she was on the ticket, so at least they already were indirectly pledged to her). However, last I read, the delegates have already committed to her, so the convention is going to be the formality that it usually is. Also, she appears to have raised over $100M already (which is surprising if no one thinks she has a chance; ergo, big donors do think she has a chance).
