The nine republicans on the Texas supreme court overturned a lower court order allowing an abortion for a pregnant woman whose fetus was diagnosed with a fatal condition.

Ms. Cox’s fetus received a diagnosis of trisomy 18, a genetic abnormality that in all but rare cases results in miscarriage, stillbirth or an infant’s death within the first year after birth. Dr. Karsan, who is also a plaintiff in the Zurawski case, determined that an abortion would be the safest option for the mother’s health.

Her doctor argued that carrying the pregnancy to term risked her health and her future ability to have children.

Tough, the supreme court said, that she's at high risk for multiple pregnancy complications, including hypertension, gestational diabetes and infection, those ain't medical emergencies. She needs to be literally dying... then it's okay for a doctor to step in and try to save her life.

Umm, if democrats don't make the republicans' plan for this Texas law to become federal law in every city and every state the focus of every 2024 campaign ad, they're idiots.

I saw a show a long time ago...maybe Outer Limits...don't remember now. In that show they imprisoned pregnant women until they gave birth. Just to be sure they didn't get an abortion. I wonder now long before Texas thinks of that...

The woman in question has already gone out of state to get the procedure. She didn't await the ruling.

Cherry picking the Supreme Court decision on abortion,

“In the end, though, Alito's opinion has a larger objective, perhaps multiple objectives.

Writing for the majority, he said forthrightly that abortion is a matter to be decided by states and the voters in the states.”

https://www.npr.org/2022/06/24/1102305878/supreme-...

It is up to the voters in Texas and other states to change, modify the abortion laws existing in their state.
So I am assuming Texas lawmakers were abiding on the existing laws regarding abortion.

ON THIS one - - the Left is right.

This is pure Taliban.

My hope is Conservatives will eventually be pro abortion.

After all...."Israel!" middle fingered Christian Republicans after the Roe ruling and really went pro choice.

If God's people can be pro choice, so can Christian Republicans.

What cherry picking? She was challenging the TX law in front of the TX supreme court. They ended up ruling that she had to carry a terminally ill fetus to term. So if she couldn't afford to go out of state, she would have to endanger herself to deliver a fetus that is going to die very quickly.

I'm aware of the SCOTUS decision. It was flat wrong. Just like Dredd-Scot was wrong. Just like women's suffrage shouldn't have been left up to the states. Some things are just fundamental rights, or should be. SCOTUS sometimes gets it wrong, as I'm sure history will record the abortion decision to be wrong at some point in the future.**

**Perhaps not the "right to privacy" angle, which Roe was originally argued, but bodily autonomy (which I think would be the same amendment, just argued differently).
