It also offered fresh reassurance that Warren Buffett’s investing conglomerate remains the first port of call for companies in need of a big check or a vote of confidence.
The rapid moves show that Abel — who turned 64 the day the Alphabet deal was announced — is starting to put his mark on the conglomerate, and is willing to seize opportunities and cut big checks as quickly as his predecessor did. That’s likely to provide some reassurance to Berkshire investors,
