You used to be able to download ^GSPC (SPX) by getting the download link for anything else, like SPY, and changing the SPY ^GSPC.
Easy peasy.

A couple of weeks ago I dl'ed TQQQ using this link (omit spaces):
https: // query1.finance.yahoo.com/v7/finance/download/TQQQ?period1=1265846400&period2=1707523200&interval=1wk&events=history&includeAdjustedClose=true

I just tried it and got:
{"finance":{"result":null,"error":{"code":"forbidden","description":"User is not subscribed to Premium or has invalid cookies"}}}

Hopefully somebody will manage to find a way around it. Otherwise yahoo finance will become mostly useless to us. I cannot imagine paying $39.95/month !!!
