Anounces the Elon Musk will be be making immediate changes at the FAA. Something about safety upgrades.

Susan Collins says she is “concerned”.

What could go wrong?

Apparently Elon is not satisfied with only watching his exploding Teslas and rockets

Funny (not so funny)

Two weeks ago my wife and I bought tickets to fly to Tuscon later in the month.

Three days ago, we breathed a sigh of relief when were able to cancel and get a refund.

And then yesterday, we thought- that perhaps we were over-reacting- I mean, two plane crashes in a matter of days could simply be a coincidence, right?

We got over it.

Lulz.
Now you're letting your politics - and general ignorance of aviation - screw with your personal life.

Come on, man.

The man of exploding rockets and cars fame who turned his 80 billion dollar Xitter into a 30 billion dollar trainwreck in a little over a year, along with his merry band of unvetted misfit toys are going to be making “safety upgrades at the FAA?

Who are these guys? Well, we really don’t know.

Who vetted them? Elon Musk

What are these “safety upgrades”? Well, that’s not clear.

Trump did give a word salad explanation, but it was so disjointed it was indecipherable.

Not only no, but Musk No!

Refusing to use a transportation system becuse an evil clown is in charge of safety is not “politics interfering with my personal life. Rather, it’s ensuring that my wife and I will continue to have personal lives at all.

Life is about negotiating risks, and this is simply one that we aren’t taking for awhile.

Tell me you don't know anything about engineering without telling me you don't know anything about engineering.

What are these “safety upgrades”?

Maybe we hire more ATCs?

No, it's an unhealthy level of paranoia.

Yeah I hear you.

I tend to overreact but so far I've kept the yearly family Florida trip intact.

But, as America descends further into a "1st world country with visible 3rd world traits" as the Leader predicted on TMF, I don't take these things for granted.

I've only skipped one flight in 12 years but that's the way I roll.

Tell me you don't know anything about engineering without telling me you don't know anything about engineering.

What aspect of what I said would be better understood by an engineer?

Maybe we hire more ATCs?

Do you mean instead of offering buyouts to the ones who still remain? Then I agree. But what does that have to do with Elon Musk? That’s not an engineering problem.

Musk wants to impose his own plan to automate the air traffic control system. I have no problem with that as an intermediate to long range goal. But I don’t want Elon anywhere close to that. For one thing, he’d be on both sides of the government/contractor issue- a ginormous red flag for fraud. But most importantly, Elon has an experimental history rife with spectacular explosions of rockets and cars.

It can be argued that such is the progression of applied science, and that would be true. Another way of putting that is “We learn by our mistakes” and that is true as well. But Elon is cooking up a revolutionary scheme to automate our entire system of air traffic control- of taking humans out of the equation.

And I agree with that long term vision. It would be an engineering marvel.

But not at the price of a few, spectacular mid-air collisions. Elon would view that as simply the price to be paid for the advance of science (and his bottom line)

Caution and step by step advance is called for. NOT Elon’s usual mode of operations that is on full display at the moment-slash and burn the existing structure to the ground, then replace it with the new (untested) solution after the old system lies in smoking ruins.

Baby steps are called for if you want to automate air traffic control, Dope.

And Elon has never been one to tip toe through a technological minefield.

The price of one single slip up will not be a single rocket or Tesla, but will be human lives measured possibly in the hundreds.

Has Elon Musk ever shown any regard for the price that others pay to realize his dreams?

The FAA has been trying to train/hire more air traffic controllers for years. Trump and Elon have only made that problem worse.

You mean besides all of it?

Let’s start with your “exploding rockets”. Can you tell me what SpaceX’s business model is?

Where are all the folks who previously swore up and down that the Muskrats only had read-access to data? Their silence is deafening....

The FAA code base spans multiple computer architectures and languages. You're not going to do much just by reading data.

You're not going to do much just by reading data.

Quite the opposite/ If you have the data, you can write your own programs to reduce and consolidate it, analyze it statistically, have your AI tools look for discrepancies and correlations.

Sorry Blue Grits, I thought you were talkin abut the agency audits.

As far as the FAA Tower and flight control systems are concerned, 1) they are ancient and inadequate and need replacement, and 2) there is no way the DOGE boys should ever be allowed to alter even one line of code.

So I agree with you and again sorry for my initial erroneous assumption.
