Just started scratching the surface of VRSN. Only a couple Perplexity queries. Far more interesting story than i was expecting.

Any VRSN experts hanging around with commentary on the BRK investment? According to Dataroma history we've done pretty darn well with this small-sized investment. Patiently and kinda stealthy.

https://www.dataroma.com/m/hist/hist.php?f=BRK&s=V...

Is it Todd or Ted? Kudos.

The company is a toll bridge...WEB's favorite model.

From Perplexity: <Verisign does indeed hold exclusive rights to the .com domain as the designated registry operator. This means that Verisign manages the authoritative database of all .com domain names and is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure that supports them.>

I would be interested in others opinion of our ownership. And....is it on anyone's personal radar? Price doesn't seem too outrageous. Priced like a internet utility, perhaps?

Potential Gov hands on a company with this much tollway feels kind of ominous.

Happy holidays.

No opinion of our Verisign ownership, but here is an interesting two-part piece on Verisign from a year ago:

They get a lot of bad press for having abused their monopoly, a claim not entirely without merit. But it's a fairly gentle steel fist, as these things go.

A nice little piece that lays out a few of the considerations

One could argue that the pain of the overcharging is spread so thinly that we're being crushed under an itsy bitsy boot.

Labadal-

Appreciate the link. It’s a good read.

With VeriSign, if it’s a ‘regulated utilty’ that is quite predictable from a pricing and profitability standpoint….what drives a near 5 bagger in 10 years?

Is it a giant risk game of musical chairs, with the bet being you can still find a seat when the music stops on occasion and before the ICANN or new technology pulls the rug out?

Inquiring minds want to know.
