https://apnews.com/article/government-shutdown-lon...

The government shutdown is poised to become the longest ever this week as the impasse between Democrats and Republicans has dragged into a new month. Millions of people could lose food aid benefits, health care subsidies are set to expire and there are few real talks between the parties over how to end it.

President Donald Trump said in an interview aired on Sunday that he “won’t be extorted” by Democrats who are demanding negotiations to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies that expire at the end of the year for millions of Americans. Echoing congressional Republicans, the president said on CBS’ “60 Minutes” he’ll negotiate only when the government is reopened.

Democrat voters need to decide, and quickly, whether they prefer 1) allowing Democrat Senators imagined political "leverage" over Democrat voters, by instructing their Democrat Senators to continue to block the C.R.; 2) instructing Democrat Senators to pass the C.R. so they won't starve to death

One would think the choice to be obvious.

Epstein has about as much to do with it as road apples.

I think Democrats have played it perfectly so far.

They started the shutdown.

They literally are given a situation where health insurance, for RED AND SWING and Blue Voters, has GONE UP - way more than a buck for egg prices.

And they did "Epstein" "Demolition" "ballroom".

I'm glad they didn't listen to me and focus on the health insurance cost all this time.

Look how they've made Trump run for the hills

Signed, he/him they/them Epstin ballroom demolition.

42 MILLION PEOPLE are on SNAP!!!! Who even knew? I'll bet most Americans were unaware. Imagine all the fraud and corruption going on.

so, googled it and SNAP accounts for anywhere between 8% to 13.5% of all grocery store sales, depending on what year you are looking at.

Since margins are notoriously slender in the grocery business, if you took the SNAP away, or even a good portion of it, it might really impact the overall profitability of the grocery business.

I have nothing against poor and disadvantaged persons having enough food to eat.

Why do Democrat politicians, and Prog-Libs, want poor children to starve???

I don't get it.

Math challenged? I have been saying from the start the number of people impacted by the ACA cut is too small, vs the impact of a shut-down.

Plus, the Republicans will likely be willing to extend the enhanced subsidies in some form because it affects their supporters in red states.

Democrats had to be seen to be doing something, I guess. It sucks.

I need to go on a trip this week. Would normally fly, but don't want to deal with delays. I'm driving.

Obsessing about Epstein is a losing strategy. Sure, we should probably find ways to mention it. But the Dems really need to have a coherent plan to lay the blame for this on Reps. They're already trying to do that on the Dems.

Also, a judge (actually, 2) has ruled that they can't withhold SNAP funds. So, now it's just about the ACA again.

Dems need to focus. Most people don't care about pronouns, or Epstein, or any of that. They care firstly about MONEY, and how they can get enough to support their families. A distant second might be injustice. Pretty much everything else doesn't even hit the radar.

Largely agree, but only as a matter of degree. A certain amount of obsessing may not be a bad thing. It's true that the majority of people are not tuned in to this, but who are the ones that have been most vocal? The hard right bros! Making them disaffected is likely not a bad strategy.

Often it seems that the hard right bros response to disaffection from the admin is a turn to a more radical sect; Groypers, Proud Boyz, etc.
