It won’t interfere with the current building. It won’t be. It’ll be near it, but not touching it — and pays total respect to the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of. It’s my favorite. It’s my favorite place. I love it.

What an image! Trump demolishing the humble people’s house, to make room for his oligarch monstrosity.

Reality check. The "east wing" is separated from the White House by a considerable distance, connected by an enclosed walkway. It was originally built in 1902. In 1942, a second story was added, and a bomb shelter. Considering that, when the WH does host a shindig, it has been held in a tent, in principle, I am not opposed to construction of a ballroom. There are plenty of other concerns I have about the project, but, in principle, I am not opposed to the east wing being torn down and a ballroom built.

this is just howling at the moon, but it's tighten your belts for the working class,
and gilded ballrooms, Lear jets, and "gifted" 747's for the Trumpster and his crew.
That's ok, nothing I can do about, and no belt tightening needed here.
We'll see how the MAGA base likes it when Trump's "strategic" leadership featuring
tariffs and bulldozing Government programs really hit. I already fairly sure
that the libs and Indies ain't gonna like it. But Trump does spew out nonsense
that a lot of people like to hear, so maybe MAGA and some Indies are
immune to reality. Time will tell, not holding my breath for reasoned, logical
thinking taking hold in the next few years.

At $250M, the bill for the ballroom is probably the least harmful of his projects, by a couple orders of magnitude.

I just commented on another thread: the Dems should vote "present", and give the MAGAs their head. See how the base likes the full force of the policies they voted for.
