Of all the people who are arrested - the ones in the "jail hallways" - most of them don't get charged or convicted. Because the police arrest a lot of people on suspicion of crime, or for minor crimes that don't get charged.

Of people who are convicted and have served their term in prison, by definition all of them have been charged and convicted of a crime.

What are you talking about? That's the main reason that sanctuary laws exist. To provide relief to the many, many people who are here illegally but aren't harmful to the community. Because the folks in that community believe it would be more harmful to subject otherwise law-abiding aliens to the full brunt of immigration enforcement than to let those otherwise law-abiding aliens be able to interact with law enforcement.

Conservatives often don't make that distinction. They might believe that someone who's here unlawfully deserves the full weight of immigration enforcement regardless of whether they are otherwise law-abiding or not, regardless of whether the harms of that enforcement (to them and others) outweigh the benefits of the enforcement.

That might be your perspective as well. But that doesn't mean other people don't have a different weighing of priorities.

Sanctuary laws get adopted in communities with large proportions of illegal immigrants because it causes a lot of damage to those communities when illegal immigrants get deported. Wives lose husbands, husbands lose wives, children lose parents, churches lose congregants. Parents pull their kids out of school and stop taking them to health care when they're scared of deportation. Etc. Sanctuary laws are efforts to mitigate those damages.

You might prefer to think that they aren't intended to address real-world harms to actual people in actual communities, but they are. And those communities reach a different conclusion about the right balance between those harms and the benefits of indiscriminate immigration enforcement than you might.

You don't have to agree that they're right, but telling people that they don't really believe that they believe isn't correct.

And it still doesn't address the very first post in this thread (which all of you have studiously ignored, as all of you do with facts you don't like): why was cooperating with ICE cool under Obama but verboten now? Don't you remember all the proposals that were brought forward with various Gangs of Eight or Six or whomever in the Senate? Obama's constant efforts to use Executive Orders like DACA and DAPA to achieve that?

It doesn't get brought up any more, because immigrant advocates know the don't have the votes. It's the same reason abortion opponents aren't trying to bring a national ban on abortion through Congress, instead being forced to concentrate on state-by-state efforts. Waiting for the political environment in which they could either get 60 votes, or in which the GOP can actually bring itself to vote for a compromise that they could accept. You'll remember that every bargain that the Democrats tried to get on immigration back in the Obama days died - because even when the GOP was willing to enter discussions, the base voters would never let the party as a whole agree to anything significant. Everyone knows that there's no chance in heck of getting a path to citizenship bill through the current GOP coalition. He played you a tape showing the hand off of two detainees from Corrections to ICE in a garage, gave you their names, and then stated that ICE said the detainees were released into the community by Corrections and that ICE picked them up later in the community. In other words ICE lied. I don't think you watched the tape.

It most certainly does. He states that the Department of Corrections and several other police chiefs are puzzled about ICE's claim they aren't cooperating, because they are cooperating, and handing over detainees upon request and proceeds to say that ICE claims 1300 detainees when there are actually 300 and says that some of the claims were for people already turned over, some for people never in their jurisdictions, some handed over 10 years ago, etc, and then says he hopes ICE records aren't as bad as indicated or they have a real problem.
