My big brother, Jeff (OrmontUS), used to say, "Quality is always in style."A couple days ago, I headed out to lunch, at Arby's. On my way, I glanced at a Mickey D's: drive-up line backed way up, lots of cars in dining room parking. I got to Arby's: One car in dining room parking, two cars in the drive-up. I have noticed that a number of times in recent years.
Laura has worked at that Arby's for years. I asked her, why I always see that, Mickey D's mobbed, while Arby's, Wendy's, BK, hardly have any patrons, but Mickey D's has the worst food. She said "they are cheap".
I have mentioned before, I wish I had a nickle for every person that came in my Radio Shack, and the first thing out of their mouth was "what's your cheapest...?"
The Google net sifter says recent sales trends have been up for Mickey D's, up for BK, (which is now offering two "Whopper Jr", or bacon cheezeburgers for $5, three for $7), down for Arby's and Wendy's. Taco Bell, where you can score a meal: taco, burrito, chips, medium drink, for $7-8, up.
I don't know about the rest of the US, but in Michigan, cheap sells. For fast food, that means under $10 for a meal. I really like Wendy's, but their "combo" prices are over $10. Several of the Wendy's here have closed. I really like their COBB salad. I have noticed, in recent weeks, they have reduced the size, and the price, of that salad. They have been offering "two jr bacon cheezeburgers, medium fries, medium drink" for $8, but, those burgers remind me of a Wendy's ad from the 80s.
