It was a good observation, but what was The West going to do about it except beg Ukraine to buy or rent a lot of weaponry, or put them on a lend lease? The NATO countries were thinking they could buy Putin into playing nicely in the playground. So they wouldn't want anyone to do anything to provoke Vlad.

Obama nor the EU revolving door certainly wasn't going to provoke Putin, and his successor... well, there's nothing more to say about that.
