MADISON COUNTY, Ind. — A former Republican candidate running for an Indiana seat in the U.S. House of Representatives has been arrested and charged with stealing several election ballots during a recent voting machine test.

Larry L. Savage Jr., a candidate in the Republican 5th District primary held earlier this year, was arrested Tuesday morning by Madison County authorities and charged with destroying/misplacing a ballot and theft. He has since been released on a $500 cash bond.

The charges filed against Savage, a 51-year-old Anderson resident and precinct committeeman, stem from an incident on Oct. 3 in which two election ballots went missing at the Madison County Government Center during testing of the local voting machines.

Court documents show county officials began testing voting machines at 10 a.m. on Oct. 3, an event open to the public. Several citizens attended the tests and were allowed to run “test” ballots through the machines assigned to their county.

Despite being marked “test,” the ballots were still officially tracked and counted by the State and included real candidate names as well as differing votes. After testing, officials found one straight-Republican ballot and one write-in ballot were missing.

A review of security footage, which was subsequently being live-streamed online, showed Savage handling the two missing ballots. He can also be heard confirming with an election official that these are “absolutely, totally real ballots.”

I imagine we’ll find out who did it. Till then, I’m not making accusations. Could be lefties. Could be righties. Whoever it is, they need to go to jail.

Actually, she was sentenced to 5 years for registering to vote, she never got to vote. In addition, she was confused by the voting rules and went to the local Election Board and they said it was OK for her to vote, and they stated that at her trial. They still sentenced her to 5 years.

The white guys that actually voted twice for Trump never served a day in prison.

SNIP It will be the second time the case comes before the court. In 2022, it ordered a lower court to revisit a decision upholding the sentence. The lower court did so and threw out Mason’s conviction in March. While some of Mason’s lawyers expected that would be the end of the case, Phil Sorrells, the local district attorney, decided to appeal the decision.

“While I am ready for this case to be over and for my acquittal to stand, I will continue to maintain my faith that justice will be done,” Mason said in a statement.

Mason showed up to cast a ballot in 2016 at the urging of her mother, who regularly reminded her children and grandchildren to vote. When poll workers couldn’t find her name on the list of registered voters, they offered her a provisional ballot. Provisional ballots are a special kind of ballot required under federal law if there is uncertainty about someone’s eligibility and only get counted if they are later confirmed to be eligible to vote.

The entire case hinges on whether Mason read and understood an affidavit she signed on the envelope accompanying the provisional ballot swearing that she was an eligible voter. Part of the affidavit asks the voter to swear that if they are a convicted felon they have completed their sentence entirely. Mason has always maintained that she did not read the affidavit and would not have voted if she understood she was ineligible to vote.

In March, the second court of appeals said that prosecutors had not presented sufficient evidence to prove Mason “actually realized” she was ineligible to vote.SNIP

Texas is being bigoted toward her with selective prosecution and sentencing. A White Christian Nationalist would be treated differently. This is a message that is appreciated by the WCN and Republicans.
