On the weekend on Nov 9th, 2024, I warned that trump winning was very bearish brkb, short term aka the next 4 years. Buffett and Munger were very vocal with respect to their opinions on the crypto space, and the crypto space won via trump, hence Buffett's phone wouldn't be ringing much for the next four years.
WHO got the calls on the TikTok deal? IF the deal had been done while Biden was pres would Buffett have gotten the call to participate? It's going to be a long lonely four years, imo.

Denial street gets wider every year in Brkville. “ According to reports in late September 2025, a new joint venture, comprised of Oracle, Silver Lake, Abu Dhabi-based MGX, and a number of other investors, is poised to take a controlling stake in the U.S. operations of TikTok. This follows an executive order by President Donald Trump that approved a framework for the deal.
The proposed ownership structure for TikTok's U.S. business is as follows:
Controlling investors: Technology company Oracle, private equity firm Silver Lake, and venture capital firm MGX are reportedly the main investors in the new entity. Combined, they are expected to hold around a 45% stake.
Existing ByteDance investors: A broader group of current ByteDance backers, including investment firms General Atlantic, Susquehanna, and Sequoia, are expected to contribute their existing equity in the company. Their collective stake is estimated to be 35%.
ByteDance: The Chinese parent company will hold a minority stake of just under 20% in the new joint venture, as required by law. ByteDance is also expected to receive licensing fees and profit-sharing from the new U.S. company.

Yes I've been a Berkshire sucker since 1989. In all seriousness, hasn't Berkshire 12x the stock price from when you first started posting on Motley Fool? I have no issue with anyone discussing Berkshire pro or con, my issue is the idea Berkshire should buy Tik Tok or even thinking that Berkshire should buy Tik Tok is on the insane side. Hell, if Buffett had qualms about Google and Amazon , why in world would he buy a Chinese social network.

I never said or meant to imply Buffett should buy ALL of TikTok, just be involved in the group. Debt, convert, equity, something, we do have a few bucks lying around,no?

Not to mention, questioning what he doesn't do. I don't mind the questioning. But it doesn't always appear to me that you understand him and his business and investment philosophy that well, given your questions and suggestions for him. I assume you know yourself pretty well, and you invest in line with that knowledge. But one size doesn't fit all. As Buffett says (paraphrasing), there's more than one way to get to heaven.

Friendster was the OG social networking site. Everybody wanted a piece of it until Myspace slowly killed it off. Myspace was huge when it was bought by Newscorp. A coup for Newscorp at the time, it was believed. Then Facebook came along and drowned Myspace in the bathrub. Speaking of Facebook, have you seen your feed lately? It is a lot different than it used to be. Facebook's business model has changed radically over the years. For whatever reason, people stopped sharing as much stuff so Facebook had to pivot to more generated content. To Zuck's credit he steered the transition, but these things change. The kids are using Snap, Whatsap, and Instagram instead. Remember Vine? It was a short video sharing site that was really popular until it eventually lost out to Instagram and later TikToK. Musk thought he could right the good ship Twitter, but least we heard that wasn't going so well. The problems are big enough he can't fix them.
I don't know enough about TikTok to understand if this is a good deal or not. It does sound high risk/high reward though. That's not how the Chairman operates.

I’d imagine WEB probably doesn’t “understand” the business, Long-term moat is unclear, senior mgt is unclear and unproven, price must be quite high, ties to China & it must be quite challenging to formulate a conservative estimate of its future cash flows.
So many owners loved the AAPL investment however- it checked so many of the boxes and proved how Warren could continue to reassess & change his mind in his late 80s & then act quickly on a Huge scale. One for the ages!

To keep it very brief you are missing the point. TRUMP and his team are the crypto gang. Buffett and Munger were enemy number 1 and 2 to the crypto gang. Look at WHO is involved on the Tik Tok deal, ALL Trumpers, period. I continue to believe Buffett's phone will not be ringing often while trump is president. Investing a few billion in any deal is more symbolic than meaningful at this point, but, he wasn't called, imo, for obvious reasons. As more deals get disclosed going forward in other industries let's see IF Buffett gets the phone.

Decades ago, when I suggested that splitting the Bs 50 for 1 would add liquidity and make brkb illegible to be added to several index funds, which would INCREASE DEMAND for brkb, no one agreed with the idea.
Decades ago, when I suggested that Buffett should authorize a buyback, no one agreed, they posted trust Buffett, YOU, are not Buffett.
When I said the 1.1 xs BV limit was a joke and he had no interest in a serious buyback, no one agreed.
After he raised the buyback limit to 1.2 xs BV, I still thought he wouldn't buy much stock below 1.2 xs BV, and he didn't.
FINALLY, he threw in the towel and agreed to buybacks at, material discounts to IV, which I first suggested 20 years earlier, when no one agreed.
Here we are 25 years later, and the same old friends are telling me, I, don't understand Buffett or the business. WHO needs comedy in Vegas, I have old friends who admit they have been reading my thoughts for 25 years and I need my brkville hands held by them!!

In 3 more years they will be gone. Hell, midterm could be a change too. You gave me a laugh when you said Berkshire and Tik Tok in the same breath. In all honesty since I first read your Motley Fool musing, Berkshire has 12X it's price. Why do still complain day in and day out? Just buy an index fund!
