The Trump administration happily negotiated the withdrawal from Afghanistan, often referred to as "the surrender agreement" but officially known as the "Agreement for Bringing Peace to Afghanistan between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan which is not recognized by the United States as a state and is known as the Taliban and the United States of America." Catchy.
Perhaps you remember the photo of Trump's secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, who attended the signing ceremony in Doha and posed alongside the Taliban leader, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar?
Perhaps you remember Trump trying desperately to get the last 5,000 American troops out of Afghanistan by the end of of 2020, even tweeting that all Americans would be home from Afghanistan for Christmas.
Perhaps you remember Trump negotiating the release of 5,000 Taliban prisoners and 1,000 prisoners from the U.S.-backed Afghan government's side? (It's in the Doha agreement.)
Perhaps you remember Trump reducing troop levels in Afghanistan to 4,000 in November of 2020, then to 2,500 just before leaving office, bragging that he had "started the process" of withdrawal from Afghanistan in such a clever way that Biden "couldn't stop it" even if he "wanted to"?
Trump wanted all Americans out of Afghanistan before he left office no matter what but the military said, 'no'.
