“VP Kamala Harris Cast Tie-Breaking Vote to Let IRS Track Workers’ Tips so They Can Be Taxed”

SNIP
“Vice President Kamala Harris — who on Saturday copied a campaign promise first announced by former President Donald Trump to eliminate taxes on tips — voted in 2022 to pass legislation that allowed the IRS to track down workers’ tips so that they could be taxed.

On August 7, 2022, Harris cast the tie-breaking vote to pass the Inflation Reduction Act that provided $80 billion in additional funding to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which then got to work cracking down on the service industry’s reporting of tips so that they could be taxed.”

"“VP Kamala Harris Cast Tie-Breaking Vote to Let IRS Track Workers’ Tips so They Can Be Taxed”
================

Not quite. Try reading the few actual facts in the article itself. If you read beyond this fake headline, you see that Harris cast the tie-breaking vote to increase funding for the IRS on August 7, 2022. And then not until 6 months later....in February 2023......did the IRS first propose a program to tax tips.

Duh..6 months later, lol same difference.

And if you read on further the article also reported,

“There’s no reason they’d be issuing guidance on how to crack down on this if it was only going to end up being voluntary,” Americans for Tax Reform’s Mike Palicz told Fox News at the time. “Ultimately, the goal is to go and grab as much revenue as possible and from whoever they can.”

“They told us they’re not going to be coming after people earning $400,000 or less,” Palicz added. “Well, here’s a new IRS rule that’s focused on bringing in tips from waitresses.”

Palicz also took to X to express his dismay, writing, “Those 87,000 new IRS agents that you were promised would only target the rich… They’re coming after waitresses’ tips now.”

And the reason why Dear husband and I always tip with cash, giving the money to our server to pocket the money right away.

I 100% support Trump's idea to exempt tips from taxes. Democrats are blood sucking leaches for OPM (other people's money).

But... I don't endorse breaking the law. I do always tip in cash because I want the tip to be shared among local employees, not the distant corporate entity.

At a local winery the server winked at us and said she appreciated not having to pay taxes on (a generous) cash tip. I don't think that's right. Agree it's every person's right to minimize taxes, but not evade them. Change the law, not break it.

Taxing tips has been a vigorous debate in Vegas since the 1970s when I first arrived. The IRS was often heartless going after dealers, cocktail waitresses, valets etc. Now, workers are allocated how much they are tipped based on dinner bills, what pit in the casino they serve, history etc. If you are a generous tipper, tip in cash, it gives your server a small bonus aka, edge.

There are some waitresses that are only getting paid $2.76 an hour. If I could sort those out, I'd pay them in cash.

It doesn't really matter. 99.9999% of them are underpaid.
