The original subsidies were quite generous as long as you didn't hit the subsidy cliff by going over 400% of federal poverty level.

But not in the states that refused to do the Obamacare Medicaid expansion. Your subsidy disappears at 138% of FPL. That's why the premiums are doubling (or more) for low income people in the 12 largely "Republican States".
It's also one of the reasons rural hospitals in Texas are closing -- you'd have an additional $9 billion flowing to the state if they were doing the Obamacare expansion.

I just had a conversation with a health agent. I've been doing Health Plan analysis, which consisted of me reading brochures over and over again, taking notes, etc. I was wondering why my wife's health plan seemed pretty good with a low premium. So I looked up one of her bills and pointed out to here the large credit she was getting that reduced her premium. She was on ACA and neither of us knew it. :)
I told the agent I was apprehensive the new admin would go after ACA subsidies and he commented he was going more into Medicare because of that, and away from ACA. I was exploring adding my wife to my plan, but my out of pocket maximum would double, which I don't like. I may have some surgery coming my way, and for me, that's fine, I never get charged anything- but if there's a catastrophe, I'd prefer the pay everything. :)
There isn't anyone close by who can explain my plan and calling over the phone left me feeling I knew the plan better than the person I was talking to, disconcerting. Reading through all the brochures is a PITA, but the nearest place that might be able to explain it is 4 hours away.

I can suspend my Fed Plan for a year to try Advantage, but after that I lose the ability to come back, and I have a good plan. So I won't do that. When FEP combines with Medicare A&B, I only make small copays on drugs, and none while I'm in the hospital. If I go down to the PPO plan part I save enough to pay for my wife's premium, but not if the ACA subsidies get dropped. It was easier in the Philippines, medical care was cheap.

My Mother had FEP Blue with Medicare and it was great. Never saw a bill for anything, excpet drugs as you say but they were not too bad with the 90 day mail order thing.
I thought you may already be on Medicare and looking for options, but I would hang on to
what you have, FEP Blue is good stuff.
