The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Brkb trades about 250 days a year on the NYSE. Times 4 million average volume a day is say 1 billion shares a year traded annually. That volume figure doesn't even consider double counting issues. Buffett alone will add 30 million shares to the float annually for say ten years. However, many other old timers will be selling as a result of Buffett retiring or passing as well. Long time holders, buy and hold for decades partners, may be adding 5 % to the float annually in the aggregate, for a decade. Greg has to attract buyers to help absorb the additional selling. Obviously, paying up, buying back stock at 1.45 XS BV, is helping to absorb the additional selling. Is brkb worth substantially more with Munger gone and Buffett in very late innings? Greg and team brk still have to prove that. We bought googl a bit early and we bought housing into higher interest rates, again, perhaps a bit early. Let's see if Greg and Buffett double down on housing in q-3?

I've been discussing these issues privately with several of the most respected posters and writers on brk over the years who no longer post. They hadn't previously given much thought to the increasing float issues, going forward, once Buffett passes. In 8 years or so how many shares of brka will be owned by the Buffett family? WHO will actually have control of brkb in 2034?

Stay tuned. :)
