Well, as the article says, "eye candy" from the JWST. And it's only just getting started. Hopefully not behind a paywall (some NYT articles are, but I'm a subscriber so I never know if it is or not).

Here is a gallery of images.

It is important to remember that the JWST is only collecting wavelengths in the infrared so all these amazing images are made by picking visible light colors to represent infrared 'colors'. Not wrong, but potentialy confusing. Does anyone know if they are consistent in their color choices or is each image created for maximum 'pop'?

They have long used false color. I believe the Voyager photos of Jupiter and Saturn were enhanced. I don't know the details, but they did something to make the differences in layers and rings more pronounced.

They aren't going for maximum 'pop', as such. They want to get more details about the structures. But that does result in more 'pop'.
