The results showed that the Harris campaign, and Democrats more broadly, had failed to find an effective message against Mr. Trump and his down-ballot allies or to address voters’ unhappiness about the direction of the nation under Mr. Biden. The issues the party chose to emphasize — abortion rights and the protection of democracy — did not resonate as much as the economy and immigration, which Americans often highlighted as among their most pressing concerns.

To be fair...they had no answers or even much of an inkling there was even a problem. Take Morning Joe, for instance:

MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough appeared shell shocked Thursday as his wife, co-host Mika Brzezinski, informed him that butter costs $7 at the grocery store.

Scarborough said he spoke to a supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris who believed President-elect Donald Trump was going to win because butter costs $3, which he argued appeared to be a “reductive” point. Brzezinski interrupted her husband to add that butter actually costs $7 at the grocery store and agreed that groceries are too high.

Oh. They figured it out. A bit late, but whatever.

Many Democrats were considering how to navigate a dark future, with the party unable to stop Mr. Trump from carrying out a right-wing transformation of American government.

Allow me to translate this one: Oh, crap. Our Deep State partying days are over. No more unelected bureaucrats able to keep pushing a left wing agenda even when a Republican is in the White House.

Yeah, that's done. Hope Trump Project 2025's them all.

But this...this is how you know you're reading the NYT and that they haven't learned a thing:
They spoke about misinformation and the struggle to communicate the party’s vision in a diminished news environment inundated with right-wing propaganda. They conceded that Ms. Harris had paid a price for not breaking from Mr. Biden’s support of Israel in the war in Gaza, which angered Arab American voters in Michigan. Some felt their party had moved too far to the left on social issues like transgender rights. Others argued that as Democrats had shifted rightward on economic issues, they had left behind the interests of the working class.

Heh.
