The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

<< I do wish I could have option to pay a higher premium but gain access to Medicare benefits>>

The government pays 75% of the Medicare premium and Medicare recipients pay the other 25%.
The only reason it is so cheap is that we only pay 25%.
If everybody could get on Medicare ("Medicare For All"), then just where would the money come from to subsidize the 75%?

From Google: On average, the federal government spends $18,900 per beneficiary annually to fund the Medicare program.

If younger people were allowed to buy in the cost per person would go down for everyone.

Something like $15k/person for Medicare level coverage would be quite attractive for us. We would save money over full price ACA insurance.
