'REPORT: New York City Hospitals and Medical Centers Are Being Overwhelmed by Illegal Immigrants'
Snip
'The medical system in New York City is straining under the weight of the constant flow of illegals.
Hospitals and medical centers are being overwhelmed by the sheer number of people seeking treatment and it's not surprising. When you suddenly add tens of thousands more people than a system was designed for, this is what you get.
Have the people of New York had enough yet?'

Illegal Immigration is certainly a serious, complex issue. Links:
Illegal Immigration Gets Less Attention When It Falls, Aug 1, 2023
"Border Patrol encounters at the Southwest border declined by 55% between December 2022 and June 2023... 'More than 7.3 million Venezuelans have left their country, making them the biggest refugee group, ahead of Ukrainians and Syrians who fled their war-torn homelands'... Experts on Latin America say it is a mistake to assume immigration enforcement policies can override the human instinct of individuals living in untenable circumstances to leave their countries and seek a better life."

Yes, the load has increased, but it's being handled. And this is saving lives, as well as directing many patients to essential support services.

I would hazard a guess that she doesn't think they should get any support services if they are here illegally. And in some states, they won't. I'm guessing NY is one that does (but don't know for a fact). Which is up to NY voters, not me. Other than ER, I don't think they get much in AZ. And the ER is only because the ER can't ask about ability to pay, or legal status. They just have to treat you.

It's true NYC hospitals are overwhelmed by the illegal aliens. More power to the hospital staff trying to keep up with the overload. I'm merely citing an article I thought others might be interested in. Interesting a left wing news outlet (NBC) is reporting on it.
Kinda nice for a change. I've noticed too left news outlets are starting to report on the seriousness of the Biden Border Crisis. It's about time.

'NYC hospitals are overwhelmed by migrants
It would be fair to argue that the title of this article could have been shortened considerably because pretty much all of New York City is overwhelmed by migrants now. Even the Mayor and the Governor have admitted as much and asked people arriving at the southern border to go elsewhere. (They're ignoring that request so far.) But the city's hospitals have been hit particularly hard. It's nearly as difficult to find an empty hospital bed now as it was at the height of the pandemic. Many of the migrants arrive with or develop serious medical issues. And the vast majority of them have no jobs or money, they have no insurance, and they have no accessible medical records. This is placing a huge strain on the city's hospitals and sucking up resources that legal residents still require. (NBCNEWS)'

I was extrapolating on what you've said in the past, as well as what you've implied. If I'm incorrect in that assessment, then I am. It wasn't intentional.
Out of curiosity, what services would you approve of?

Out of curiosity, what services would you approve of?
I would approve of any medical attention needed. I'm pointing out the utter chaos where it is probably impossible in some (many?) cases to give the proper care needed. I'm sure there are success stories due to the heroic efforts of the overworked hospital staff.
Don't know if you read the article in full, there are some things worth noting..
'This is placing a huge strain on the city's hospitals and sucking up resources that legal residents still require. (NBC News)'
'New York is a big city with multiple hospitals and a sizable public medical system, but those facilities were already busy enough taking care of the legal population of residents. You can't simply dump another 30,000 patients into the mix without causing serious issues.'
And then there is this..
'Those clinics are also overwhelmed, with many of the migrants reportedly being treated on an emergency basis while residents sit through long waiting periods for an appointment.'
You can't tell me many New Yorkers are not fed up with the illegal aliens situation. It has already started from the top with Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Adems protesting and all the way down the tax paying NY residents. Protesters have been on national TV. So it is a fact.

Thanks for a great post Liz.
If you're coming up through Latin America, your chances of picking something up are good. LA is not noted for the best nutrition and so body systems may be down. But a lot of what they can pick up is usually easily treatable, but some isn't. Leprosy is up in Florida, but they have good treatments now. So, reaching near the end of the journey for an immigrant, the chances are up they will need medical treatment and that's one area we don't want to skimp on. We have enough troubles.
Thousands of people are pouring in. If the body systems are down and there's not good treatment it can become chronic and other people can get it during flare ups. So let's move some money and nursing staff to the strained areas - everyone benefits. We want to get them there shots, make it required if they want to stay(with exceptions). We have enough trouble with some of us who seem reality challenged.
But as the climate changes we are going to find that bugs and animals heading northward are going to bring more diseases with them. We need to deal.

Another reason for comprehensive reform. We can medically screen all entrants to they don't spread TB, or something worse.

How do you do that when the illegals are pouring in by the hundreds, thousands?

Yes, we do very well on TB, about 5 people a year die from it in the USA. In the Philippines, the fishing villages are where the most malnutrition is, and TB is prevalent. Knew a Lithuanian that lived on a sailboat, and dated the women on the shore - some of them had TB, but he didn't care.

wHY IS RACIST BLUE ANTI-IMMIGRANT New York - finding yet another reason to spew Anti Immigrant Rhetoric?
If New York's Top 1% would just pay their fair share, the hospitals would be like palaces.
AND NO.....THE PEOPLE OF NEW YORK HAVE HAD NO WHERE NEAR ENOUGH. NOT EVEN CLOSE. SADLY I THINK LIKE EVERYHTING ELSE IN SMART PHONE CULTURE, THIS WILL SOON WANE.
But.... only when the 401K'ers......only when the snobs are looking all around them at Whole Foods Parking Lots and at EV Charging stations from Austin to NYC to Chevy Chase...... will I consider it perhaps a reason to consider a change.
This is tame.
Racist White Liberals need to face *everything* they have forced America to face from illegal immigrant.
*everything* - stuff I'd not spell out publicly.
Start with Redondo Beach California. Them broads either stay inside with Burka's on....OR, well, they "meet new friends" if they go out.
Then - I'll start to be content.

I already answered that question. Comprehensive reforms, which make it easier to get a legal visa, and harder to find work without one.

And I repeat..
'How do you do that when the illegals are pouring in by the hundreds, thousands?'
Biden has to STOP the flow of the thousands of illegal coming into America every week,
so some orderly reform can happen.
It will be a matter though of shutting the barn doors after the horses have bolted.
The illegals have already brought with them their diseases, leprosy, tuberculosis, measles and etc outbreaks.

It's time that all New York City residents whom are white, and are rich (as defined by having a positive net worth)....do the following:
1.)Excise tax on all "gym" memberships.
2.)Excise tax on all home fitness equipment.
3.)FULL taxation of any health insurance benefits that are currently un-taxed - meaning - all of them.
4.)Surcharge for any and all doctor visits where the patient has already seen that doctor before.
Migrants don't have those advantages in rich white racist New York.
Proceeds should go towards migrant health care.
People of Color. They/them. Disenfranchised. Blah blah blah

That WILL stop the flow. At least as much as it can be stopped. If they can't find jobs without documents, they are much less likely to come here without documents. But the work still needs to be done, so get a proper migrant worker visa system (that includes health screens).
Without that, it is utterly impossible to stop the flow. The wealth disparity is too large, and the employment opportunities too great, to resist.

I think that's wrong. That's a good solution for 1980's era migration - less so now.
Back then, they were mostly men coming to the U.S. alone, primarily driven by opportunities for work. Now, they are more often entire families fleeing (to them) intolerable conditions in their home countries. Now they are more being pushed, not pulled.
Tightening workplace requirements might help a little - but they're not much less likely to come if you have rigorous workplace enforcement. Plus, it's not going to be easy getting Congressional budget approval for a huge allocation of resources for ratcheting up enforcement this way....
