Has anyone noticed that the top central figure in the sickening AI-generated image posted on Donald Trump's Truth Social account -- the hovering winged figure in the place usually occupied by God in Christian iconography -- resembles the Devil? If I believed in the Devil (which I don't) I would think that Trump had sold his soul to the Devil as a teenager. (Based on Trump's parents ejecting him from the house, the only one of their 5 children sent to a military academy.)

If I was a Christian I would be deeply offended by this heretical image which shows Trump in the place of Jesus Christ with a woman praying to him. Trump is a Dark Triad narcissistic psychopath but this takes real chutzpah. It's hard to believe that the Christian right, which managed to ignore Trump's disgusting immorality and corruption, will ignore this.

Trump is probably already planning a Putinesque move to overthrow the Constitution and run for President a third time. But even if he doesn't this could poison the well politically among his supporters.

Oh, they will, of course, being inherent hypocrites. Look at Franklin Graham as just one example: imagine what he would be "preaching" if a democrat did any of the things trump did.

And recall that he's already blasphemed Christianity with images he's posted before, including those with Jesus hands on his shoulders and him seated as Pope himself, complete with papal miter. Depicting himself actually as Jesus is just another step that most so-called Christians will ignore or excuse.

Nothing poisons the well politically among his supporters.

Trump is probably already planning a Putinesque move to overthrow the Constitution and run for President a third time.

Frontal attacks on the rules are sometimes too much bother.

My wager is that, if a person had such a plan, the way to start would be with the Medvedev move: get to be VP, or if necessary speaker, with place man in the presidency. Then just have those above him resign. This probably doesn't fully follow the rules either, but it seems to.

Another possibility is that the US will have another free and fair election, followed a transfer of leadership without organized violence anywhere, and Mr Trump will step down gracefully.

Frontal attacks on the rules are sometimes too much bother.

That was already addressed.

US Constitution, Amendment XXII, Section 1:

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

US Constitution, Amendment XXII, Section 1:

Yes, that's clear. But it says nothing at all about whether anyone will try, nor indeed succeed. The notion that it won't be attempted because of that clause presupposes that the constitution will be followed by the US administration all the time. That is clearly not policy this year.* So, as with any human behaviour, it could perhaps become as question of what one can get away with, not what is within the rules.

Just because something is against the law doesn't mean nobody will do it, nor indeed does it even mean that nobody will get away with it. This is a general rule, true from shoplifting through genocides.

Jim

* There are plausible prima facie arguments to be made about intent to, or fact of, violating the birthright citizenship clause, war powers clause, appropriations clause, due process clause, and take care clause, to name a few, something about insurrectionists. I'm not American, so I don't know 'em all, just the famous ones like Pikachu and Bulbasaur.

True. But, once the US Constitution is no longer the "law of the land", then the US ceases to exist as a real country. It becomes 50 independent (?) countries. The consequences of THAT is something the right does not really comprehend. They will have no payments from any govt to fund their welfare requirements--so they will die off fairly quickly. Remember: They are *dependent* on the blue states for their needs--including weapons, ammunition, fuel, equipment, and a wide variety of "necessities" they do NOT produce. No phones, television, and so on. They will be walking or using horse-drawn carts soon enough. Back to the 1800s--just the REAL 1800s--not the "modernized" 1800s they wanted (i.e. non-whites as slaves and/or deported, with whites as the privilege class and women basically as chattel).

To Jim's point, this "administration" has even warped the great trope "just because you can, doesn't mean you should..."

to

"just because you CAN'T, doesn't mean WE can't..."
or
"just because you 'can't', doesn't mean we shouldn't or won't..."
