As to slowing the spread of covid and decreasing its impact one need only compare US deaths per million vs Japan's, ~3500 vs 550.
Yep, early on they adopted the three Cs approach - focusing on avoiding the so-called “Three Cs” (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings. Then they are a mask cooperative culture and have respect for others in society. And may I point out that they get a good winter and have snow on the ground.
Singapore is a mask cooperative Asian culture, that had good advice and they were 350 deaths per million, but they don't have a winter with snow on the ground - lots of A/C, but people are willing to wear masks. And the USA, with a rebel yell, had 3500 per million.
