Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican of Georgia, on Friday took the first step toward ousting House Speaker Mike Johnson, filing a resolution calling for his removal after he pushed through a $1.2 trillion bipartisan spending bill that enraged the hard right.
“Today I filed a motion to vacate after Speaker Johnson has betrayed our conference and broken our rules,” Ms. Greene said shortly after passage of the package, which was needed to avert a partial government shutdown after midnight.She would have to be recognized to try to vacate the speakership and the House would have to take action in two legislative days when the it is slated to recess for two weeks.
Greene immediately ran to get her face on Steve Bannon's “War Room” program on Friday morning where she was non-committal on whether or not she would actually call for Johnson’s ouster.
In short, this is another dog and pony show, a stunt... which is all the republican-led House has to offer the American people these days.
