Heh.

Lol.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

https://www.axios.com/2024/08/27/kamala-harris-fli...

From Axios, no less.

If she's elected president, Kamala Harris pledges to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on the wall along the southern border — a project she once opposed and called "un-American" during the Trump administration.

Finally, a policy position from Kamala Harris. And...it's another one of Trump's.

Delicious.

Looking forward to all the xenophobic wall-building leftists to cheer this proposal.

Is it, though? AIUI, Harris announced her intent to revive the border bill that died in the Congress earlier this year. That bill has some border wall funding.

But it's the bill that Trump came out and opposed (let's not dive into the debate again over who opposed it first - Trump definitely opposed the bill).

As we discussed over and over again, the border bill was one of the rare proposals that contained a number of enforcement measures (including some wall funding), and no path to citizenship/DREAMER/other goodies. The Biden Administration backed the proposal. It's hardly a surprise that Harris is backing it as well.

Or am I missing something? Is she proposing an $18B stand-alone border wall funding provision like Trump wanted?

Yes, I cheer a revival of the border bill that Trump opposed and you came out saying "they're taking his best issue away." It would be icing on the cake if Trump was defeated and it was at least partially due to his killing that bill. :)

It's a flip-flop because Harris is on record opposing any wall construction:

"I'm not gonna vote for a [border] wall under any circumstances."

...and yet, she says she'll sign this bill.

Because it's not a stand-alone border wall bill. Frequently, in order to pass a bill that has things that you want, you sometimes have to include things that you wouldn't ordinarily vote for. She's not going to let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

----------------------

Not only un-American, Kamala also refereed to the wall as Trump's "medieval vanity project".

You are missing the fact that the MAGA nutters have been lied to over and over again by the information sources that take advantage of them. They have been told repeatedly that Democrats only want an open border.

As a result, they think that Democrats never want to build any type of barrier anywhere on the southern border. It is stupid of course, anyone who has a clue about reality knows that there were barriers erected during both Clinton and Obama's time in office as well as during Biden's time in office. Sane people are all for barriers being erected where and when they make sense and can make an actual difference.

The MAGA nutters need to be lied to in order to reinforce the idiocy that Democrats want open borders.

Before any of the nutters go there..... when Trump made his stupid promise about building a wall along the whole border and having Mexico pay for it the reason Democrats were so against it was because it is insane to put up a wall (or other barriers) along the whole southern border. In many places it is wasteful because barriers would be expensive and useless. There are areas of the border that are so desolate, dangerous, and remote that no one crosses there. A person, even after crossing the border, would have to walk for three days before they hit semblance of civilization. They would be humping up and down hills, down through gullies and would die well before making it anywhere. Plus, it would be over private land meaning any stranger would be immediately noticed.

The other day Trump did a photo op in front of a section of barrier. Over to the side where the barrier ended was a stack of rusting out barrier sections that were never installed. He pointed to the standing barrier and said that was a section he built. He then pointed to the stack of uninstalled sections rusting away and blamed it on Biden/Harris. Like most things Trump does, it was a lie. In fact he had it backwards. The standing barrier was installed during Obama's time in office. The rusting uninstalled wall happened during Trump's time in office. The reason the section were paid for, but never installed during Trump's time in office is that it would have been an engineering nightmare to install them. To extend Obama's wall would have required putting up the wall in an area that was hilly and pock marked with gullies. One torrential Texas rain and the wall would have collapsed from the weight of the water. Trump didn't care about building the actual wall. It was all about showmanship for him. Fool his followers into thinking he was doing something. As a result his wall failed. So he just lies about it and he knows his followers will not care that they are being lied to.

As always, Trump knows his gullible cult will believe any lie he tells and will never question it.

In fairness, I probably wouldn't have known that. I could have deduced that the rusting pile was from his term because during the Biden term a lot of the construction stopped. But I wouldn't have known the standing wall was erected during the Obama years.

Though, as I recall, the Trump portions are already falling down, rusting, and/or being taken down by Mexicans to use as raw material for hovel construction.

Also, I agree with the other poster that a 2000 mile wall is a stupid idea. As I was saying on TMF years ago. The Chinese built a better wall, and garrisoned it with troops, and it still didn't stop a lot of people. There are regions that are so desolate that walking is an almost certain death sentence. There are no towns, no roads (except maybe fire roads), no nuthin'. You would be crazy to try to cross between -for example- Douglas (Agua Prieta) and the New Mexico line.

Plus, as the data show, the people are actually seeking out officials to turn themselves into, so they can apply for asylum. So you would want to cross near Nogales or Yuma or Douglas, where you might actually find someone you can turn yourself into.

OK. That made me smile.

But they do either seek out officials, or just squat someplace until they are found (if they don't know where to find someone official). They offer no resistance, they don't run. They're just waiting to be picked up so they can apply.
