I don't own a gun - but I appreciate the Constitutional Right to do so, even though I feel that social culture and family units have decayed to a point where Americans - many Americans - can't be trusted with a gun, let alone day to day life.
Almost 15 years ago when I decided America was in permanent decline headed to being a 1st world country with normalized visible 3rd world traits, I did take gun safety courses and purchased lawfully, a gun.
Happily married, kids, blessed with finances. Grew up in that environment, and thus far have been able to provide such environment so no stressors. However....I do tend to have a short temper at times. I don't feel I'm capable of violence -- heck the last time I ever did anything close to violent was at age 12 - school bus fight.
But I decided - I'm probably better off without a gun and I got rid of it - again within the law.
The many Americans who believe in right to arms, who respect guns.....I just can't imagine why they vehemently don't support background checks. Why do you want nut jobs, thugs, and modern culture-manufactured-freaks.....to take something you respect and cherish and denigrate it?
"It's just a start! They'll come for the guns next!!!" - I get that -- BUT the shootings and mayhem are eventually going to give impetus, and political will to the powers that be to yes TAKE the guns. When today's kids - you know - the ones who can pick pronouns, not eat Twinkies, and run like hell during "lockdown drills" grow up, they will be more sympathetic to gun bans when they run the show.
So, get out in front of it. Gun Owners should DEMAND strict background checks, in the name of protecting the 2nd Amendment.
Some on the right love shouting "my resolve! My principles!" - well they lost votes over gay marriage for a long while and now even young Republicans are all for it. Once again, you are going to use political capital on something that is a foregone conclusion - albeit awhile down the road.
Support background checks. Stop these idiots from sullying the right to own a firearm.
