Buffett offered Partnership shares in Berkshire in 1965 at $11.50 per share. Seabury Stanton famously sent Warren the paper work made out for 12.5 cents light.
Around 1971 the share price first hit $60.
1983 $600
1989 $6,000
1998 $60,000
2024 $600,000
It’s has never been too late to ride the Berkshire Hathaway train.
Next big milestone: $1 Trillion dollars market capitalisation only 13.6%, or $120 Billion away. In this market, that should be doable by the AGM!

It’s has never been too late to ride the Berkshire Hathaway train.Time it has taken to add another zero...
1983 -> 1989 : 6 Years
1989 -> 1998 : 11 Years
1998 -> 2024 : 26 Years
2024 -> ?? : ?? Years
Care to take a guess on how long the next zero will take? 70 years maybe? The train is definitely slowing....

Depends a bit on inflation.
e.g., it could be managed in 21 years of 7%/year real growth in value per share, inflation of 4.1%, and no change in valuation multiples.
That would be a bit optimistic on the value growth and bit pessimistic on the inflation, but the numbers work : )
Or 25 years of 6.5%/year real growth in value and inflation of 3.15%.
Or 30 years of 6%/year real growth in value and inflation of 2%. That one sounds possible.
Or 35 years of 4.8%/year real growth in value and inflation of 2%. Sounds like getting close to worst case, barring catastrophe.

Interesting data. Maybe our Berkshire “genes” will be favorable to us all as it has the dynamic duo, Mrs.B, & many late Board members.
I recall the cool 1970’s show “$6 Million Dollar Man” & now talk of the “$6 Million A Share” Amazing-Father Time & the 8th wonder of the world! May a good many of us be of reasonable health of body And mind to experience that fun milestone, only to soon pass the pricy stock certificates on to philanthropy or our heirs!

I still bitterly remember the first year I funded my IRA with the maximum $2000. Even back then there were many articles about how good Berkshire Hathaway was.
But it seemed crazy stupid to pay the whole $2000 in the IRA to buy one share of a stock.

And whether they start paying out a dividend which you would expect to delay the next milestone.

" And whether they start paying out a dividend which you would expect to delay the next milestone." Do brks top five holdings pay a dividend? Buffett deliberately buys and owns dividend paying stocks because he prefers companies which will suffer from diminished demand for their shares? How did FB aka Meta trade after it declared its first dividend ? The div was perceived as a negative by the market? Thank you.
