Stock Investor Pro 5.0.8 (10/1/2024 release) uses a new data source with new industry classifications:
https://www.aaii.com/stockideas/article/238933-imp...

For example, AAPL industry in SIP was
on September 27th: 57106020 - Phones & Handheld Devices
on October 1st: 452020 - Technology Hardware, Storage & Peripherals

gtr1 reported trbc7.s for AAPL as 5710602 as of 20241001.

AAII only gave me one day notice of this major data change (with a September 30 email).

The number of earnings estimates has changed in SIP, but has not changed in gtr1. For example, MSFT had 51 estimates in SIP on September 27th, and 43 estimates on October 1st. gtr1 as of 20241001 still has 51 estimates.

452020 - Technology Hardware, Storage & Peripherals
FWIW - that appears to be the same classification Fidelity uses.
Zacks, bless their hearts, uses something completely different, classifying it as Computer-Micro Computers.

Lizgdal: “AAII only gave me one day notice of this major data change (with a September 30 email).”

I’ve been a AAII Life Member with a Stock Investor Pro for subscription for over 20 years. Current subscription was recently renewed for another 3 years.
They didn’t send me an email notice of the data change instead they sent me an email yesterday saying
Don’t Miss Out We are concerned because you access to AAII SIP has recently expired.

Just logged in to their website and it says my subscription Expires 9/30/2027. I’m not too impressed with
their notification system.

A quick look at current SI-PRO GTR1 fields using the list:*.s command shows that - at the very least - the sector & industry fields have currently been removed. Past data seems preserved as backtesting using those fields appears to be working through 240930. Likely Robbie is working on integrating the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) into the database in a similar fashion to The Reference data Business Classification (TRBC) system 2 & 7 data fields.

After a new format is integrated into the post-241001 data and so is available for testing, we should be able to create GTR1 industry searches that work across all the previous formats (sector / industry -> TRBC 2 & 7 -> GICS) much like we were able to do in the past. An example ...

RealEstateOps: pref(if(trbc2.s=60,1,if(trbc7.s=5540201!5540202!5540301!5540302!5540303!5540304,1,0)),if(incd.s=933,1,0))

... which looked for the old industry code (incd.s=933) or TRBC 2 code (trbc2.s=60) or the TRBC7 codes (trbc7.s=5540201!5540202!5540301!5540302!5540303!5540304 where ! is OR) to determine Real Estate operations.

I'll keep a look out for the new field scheme suiting the GICS data to appear and then work on some translation examples. In the meantime for SI-PRO itself AAII has provided the following mapping scheme between the two classification systems ( https://www.aaii.com/files/images/TRBC-to-GICS-Com... ). It might be worth downloading a copy for use in any screening within the SI-PRO app.

Running almost any SIP screen on GTR1 will not give accurate results until Robbie updates all the sector and industry to the new definitions.
I took lohill’s latest screen picks for ROE_Cash_boris which typically has a low turnover as an example:
20-Sep ROE_Cash_boris GOOGL META V NVDA FANG AMZN TJX MOH ANET DXCM JBL ACN CPRT AMAT NKE UTHR ADBE FTNT GRMN ROST HALO MTDR SNPS EOG PANW
27-Sep ROE_Cash_boris GOOGL META V NVDA FANG AMZN TJX MOH ANET DXCM JBL ACN CPRT AMAT NKE UTHR FTNT GRMN ROST HALO MTDR SNPS ADBE EOG PANW
3-Oct ROE_Cash_boris GOOG GOOGL RNR NVDA META TSLA ABNB HIG PCAR MOH ANET EQH AMP CPRT SYF UTHR AMAT TROW FTNT GRMN FLR ADBE NVR EOG SNPS
Notice that from the 20th to the 27th there were few changes (none for the first 16)
However for the 3rd of Oct only 13 of the 25 tickers previously tickers are selected.

But I think there may be a much bigger problems with the new vendors data matching the old data.
I looked at the AAII Driehaus screen which has a very low 6% turnover using the AAII built in SIP screener.
The 20-Sep using the old data vendor only passed 9 stocks but the new data passes 17 stocks only 6 are in both selections.

My screens use this line to filter out financial and real estate securities:

FINwithRE: pref(if(trbc2.s=55!60,1,0),if(sector.s=7,1,if(incd.s=933,1,0)))

The screens are high turnover, but they still work and it's not evident that there are unusual changes in the picks.
The trbc2 codes are still being used in the screening steps and presumably contain the latest value, and are not being updated any more.
So it seems like things should keep working, more or less, at least for this particular filter (trbc7 based filters may be less reliable).

Mark

It seems to me that all regulations and standards are a thing of the past. Thanks to government.

AAII removed files from the archive.

Stock Investor Pro Data Archive
At the request of our former data vendor, LSEG, we removed Stock Investor Pro installations dated prior to October 1, 2024. We are exploring the possibility of restoring the archive.

There's still no sector, industry, TRBC or GICS coding in the current SI-PRO field list (based on a scan of the fields generated with list:*.s and some searching of that field list for old & potentially new field names & descriptions). Screens that use the TRBC data (trbc2.s & trbc7.s) will likely work in the near future as the TRBC coding appears linked to the security with the data as at the end-September. So no great hurry at the moment but there may be new fields & coding in the future (hopefully).

Other data will change though and so there'll be some sort of discontinuity in the screen selections as the underlying base data will change even if by a little.
