I keep learning why my side beat Liberals so many times, including years I thought we should lose.

Biden has to decide: Does he want to stay on and if so, a WEEK ago he should've either appointed a James Baker to tell the whole Elite Liberal Establishment to screw off AND/OR.....merely had his Air Traffic Controller Moment.

"Fellow Americans, party bosses, big donors, and voters......

I'M RUNNING AGAIN.

I have repeatedly won key constituencies in our party such as blacks, the unions, women, and hispanics.

I've got a humble $200 million bucks and I'm the President and I intend to be the President for 4 more years.

If you want to run a 3rd party candidate, go right ahead. If you wish to cut off money, by all means do what you like.

You'll elect Trump and a GOP Senate and a GOP congress, and you'll set Women's Abortion Rights back for 50 years to come.

Covid is cleaned up, roads are being built, Semiconductors are gonna be made in America. I won't say another word about this, and Im going back to work to finish the job"

At that moment, people would take notice here and abroad.

And if he does what I said a week ago: Just go 80% Abortioh, 20% social security......

He'd win.

Semiconductors are gonna be made in America.

Except that the Chips Act is so laden with ridiculous DEI requirements that it is as much a minority jobs program.

The Hill put it this way, "The CHIPS Act's current identity as a jobs program for favored minorities means companies are forced to recruit heavily from every population except white and Asian men"

Critics like to paint Trump as eliminating regulation all together and no doubt there some regs that need that but most of the regulatory clean-up has to do with the purging the extraneous and counterproductive regulatory requirements that strangle the regulated.

Yup. That thread featured no commentary from the But Muh Legislashun crowd on here.

Even when the democrats manage to get a policy right, they F it up with their stupid woke nonsense.

But back to Biden: after 2 weeks of doing their jobs, the media is trying to memory-hole all that and pretend that Brandon is actually functional. You can see the resident robots here parroting that line also...but those who were there at the NATO summit aren't seeing that:

https://www.politico.eu/article/joe-biden-stumble-...

(Don't tell the libs; let's keep them in the dark)

‘OMFG’: Biden’s mistakes push shocked US allies toward Trump
Western diplomats are privately horrified by the President’s public gaffes and are working to build links with the Trump team ahead of November’s election.

My local news tried to run a segment last night from NBC contrasting Trump meeting with Orban at Mar-A-Lago with Biden hobnobbing with "statesmen" at the NATO summit. For some reason they didn't run the clip of Giorgia Meloni rolling her eyes and looking at her watch.

But back to the article:

When Biden introduced Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin,” there was an audible gasp among Europeans in the room.

One of those present texted POLITICO: “OMFG.”

A second added: “The European leaders froze onstage, although they did their best to keep smiling and clapping. Nobody mentioned it with the Biden team afterward.”

Another senior European diplomat in D.C. said colleagues have been busy reaching out to those who are likely to join the Trump team for months — setting up meetings, attending the same events, and inviting Trump’s allies to dinner.

Asked if there’s any pressure back home not to do this due to Trump’s polarizing image, one diplomat said: “No. We would be failing our duty if we were not trying to build connections with his people now.”

The Trump outreach has accelerated, another diplomat said, and predates Biden’s latest gaffes. “It’s been going on for more than a year,” the person added.

liberals lie to themselves before they lie to the rest of us, every just about all of them here have deeply, deeply deluded themselves on a number of topics.

I hate to break it to you, but the chip industry already is replete with non-whites. At my company there were a LOT of Indians (sub-continent, not native Americans). There were also a lot of Asians. A lot of them on H1B visas.

I would say blacks and women were underrepresented, but when you look at the schools you can see why. Blacks and women are underrepresented in engineering programs. Don't know why, but it's a fact. As a physics grad, there were a core group of us that had to take the same classes. Maybe 10-12. Two of them were women, and both were non-American women (one was Indian, the other Dutch). None were black (male or female).

You can't recruit what isn't available. There is a dearth of black and female engineers because -for whatever reason- don't go into hard science or engineering fields.

Also, from what I've read, most of the critics are complaining that there wasn't much in the way of workforce (and minority) development (i.e. encouraging entry into STEM fields). Which goes back to what I was saying about minorities in schools...if they don't enter STEM, there aren't any to recruit.

I've very aware of the chip industry, having spent decades in it.
You missed something: the DEI requirements are for construction and setup, industries where there might not be a lot of minorities and women. To wit:

That project is going better for Arizona than the actual chips part of the CHIPS Act. Because equity is so critical, the makers of humanity’s most complex technology must rely on local labor and apprentices from all those underrepresented groups, as TSMC discovered to its dismay.

Tired of delays at its first fab, the company flew in 500 employees from Taiwan. This angered local workers, since the implication was that they weren’t skilled enough. With CHIPS grants at risk, TSMC caved in December, agreeing to rely on those workers and invest more in training them. A month later, it postponed its second Arizona fab.

Yup. Biden's signature legislation - the one thing he got right - done in by wokeness and mandates.

Blacks and women are underrepresented in engineering programs. Don't know why, but it's a fact. As a physics grad, there were a core group of us that had to take the same classes. Maybe 10-12. Women have made massive strides in engineering, and outnumber men in some specialties.
https://www.purdue.edu/wiep/AboutUs/Facts-and-Figu....

Men tend to overrepresent in electrical, aero, mechanical and nuclear. Women can outnumber men in the bio- and life sciences related specialties of engineering. They're pretty much matching men in Chem E.

That's only part of the TSMC story. Check out references 82-87 here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHIPS_and_Science_Ac...

It was primarily TSMC's fault, not the Act. Though I can attest to the cultural differences between Taiwan and US engineering and business. I met my wife in Taiwan while I was working at our facility there (she was an OCW there). The differences were striking, and it was difficult to get them to do things how we wanted/needed. Plus allegations of wage theft and other stuff (TSMC in Arizona, not our company's facility to the best of my knowledge).

Yes, women are more numerous in bio-related sciences. Again, dunno why. But they are.

It's good to know that they are making strides. They certainly can do the work, but for whatever reason (likely cultural), they tend not to try to get the training/education. That is less prevalent in other cultures (e.g. Chinese or Indian), which is why I speculate there is something about our culture that discourages them from going into some fields.

That's summthin' to noodle on while I'm waiting for the little woman to finish fixin' dinner after she gets home from her job at the diner and cleans up the mess the kids made while I was out fishin' today.

OK, the only link in this thread about DEI requirements in the CHIP bill comes from an opinion piece in the Hill. Meh.

I did find this in an article:

Agencies are to require doctoral degree-granting institutions that receive federal funding as well as federally funded labs to conduct activities for addressing cultural and institutional barriers to recruiting and retaining STEM workers from underrepresented groups.

So it appears they are trying to encourage institutions to address how to get women and minorities and individuals in rural schools to become qualified candidates.

Having more qualified people seems like a smart thing to encourage.

They’re not requiring hiring unqualified people.

More right-wing handwringing.

LOL. What exhaustive research you've done!
https://www.commerce.senate.gov/services/files/592...

Sec.4. Opportunity and Inclusion
This section would require the Department of Commerce to establish activities and assign personnel to
ensure that the recipients of CHIPS manufacturing incentives meet their commitments to increase the
participation of economically disadvantaged individuals in the semiconductor workforce. Such personnel
would also serve as a resource to support the participation of minority-owned businesses, veteran-owned
businesses, and women-owned businesses, in CHIPS-funded projects.

Nothing wrong with this on its face, but as with everything, the devil is in the details.

More right-wing handwringing.

I'm going to assume you never read the Hill article. If you did, you'd have seen that the vaunted CHIPS act is producing about as much as Buttigieg's electric charger stations push: almost nothing.

https://www.theverge.com/24166234/chips-act-fundin...
Since the passage of the CHIPS and Science Act last August, eight companies have already received more than half of the planned government direct funding.

These companies have collectively received $29.34 billion in funding through the CHIPS Act for semiconductor factories across the country. The law, a $280 billion package to support innovation in the US, includes $52 billion in subsidies for semiconductor manufacturing and was passed last year.

These investments only concern the construction or expansion of semiconductor fabrication facilities and do not include government funding for other chip research facilities.

So for $29Bn you'd think there'd be lots of shovels in the ground. There aren't.

Back to the Hill:
For instance, chipmakers have to make sure they hire plenty of female construction workers, even though less than 10 percent of U.S. construction workers are women. They also have to ensure childcare for the female construction workers and engineers who don’t exist yet. They have to remove degree requirements and set “diverse hiring slate policies,” which sounds like code for quotas. They must create plans to do all this with “close and ongoing coordination with on-the-ground stakeholders.”

No wonder Intel politely postponed its Columbus fab and started planning one in Ireland. Meanwhile, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo was launching a CHIPS-funded training program for historically black colleges.

Indeed, the devil IS in the details.

For starters, it wasn’t a Hill article, it was a Hill opinion piece.

A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon we’re talking real money.

Factories are being built. It’s not like building a McDonalds. This is a multi-year project and a great win for America.
