intercst posted this link on TMF-Metar.

Sure sounds like Trump is serious about implementing tariff's.
But I'm sure he's just playin 3D Chess, next level negotiation-fu.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-promises-25...

"Trump vows new Canada, Mexico, China tariffs that threaten global trade"

"Trump: 25% tariff on Mexico, Canada over fentanyl, migration
"Additional" 10% tariff planned on China
China: No one will win a trade war"

"On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States"

Buckle Up, gonna get volatile.

The US imports about 5 million barrels of oil products per day from Canada and Mexico (4.2 Canada and 0.9 Mexico. (Yes, the US is a net exporter, but still imports a lot).

Looks like gas at the pump is going up! But wait, Trump said he would get the price of gas down. Life is so difficult when reality hits!

Companies have very little time to start readjusting their supply chains, but this will happen.

I suspect both Mexico and Canada will consider all agreements with the US to become void due to this violation by the US.
I await their response.

GM, Ford, and Stellantis are all down significantly today as all have factories in Mexico.

There was a nice measured reply from Mexico's President Sheinbaum:
“President Trump, neither threats nor tariffs will solve the issue of migration or drug consumption in the United States,” Sheinbaum said. “Cooperation and shared understanding are required to face these important challenges.”
“I believe that dialogue is the best way to reach understanding, peace and prosperity in our nations,” she said. “I hope that our teams can meet soon.”
“For example, some of the largest exporters from Mexico to the United States are General Motors, Stellantis and Ford Motor Company, which arrived in Mexico 80 years ago,” Sheinbaum said. “Why impose a tax that puts them at risk? It’s unacceptable and would cause inflation and job losses in Mexico and the United States.”

Oh, my poor naive Mrs. Sheinbaum. She's in for a rude awakening. Trump doesn't do cooperation, understanding or dialogue.

Oh, my poor naive Mrs. Sheinbaum.
Oh, I suspect she understands all about Trump.
Harris gave a master class in how to manipulate him during the debate.

She is talking to the world, not to Trump.
During his last term I mentioned Trump is basically a bully. The way you deal with a bully is to build a coalition against him and this is a step in that direction. She is pointing his failures out to the world.

And after all his bombast on NAFTA, the new treaty was basically a "no change". Let him bellow.
