While I’ve never been much of one for metals, I’ve been thinking that copper would be a decent play, given the need to rebuild the grid, put tens of thousands of transformers in place, endless miles or wire, and potentially hundreds of thousands of EVs and chargers and inverters and whatnot - all over and above the historic uses for the metal.
So my first look was to ETFs, since I know absolutely nothing about that sector, and I found COPX and COPJ, both of which are direct investments in companies mining, extracting, or processing copper. There are others which track copper futures, but since I don’t know what they do or when they do it, and I’m more interested in “the metal” than arbitrary price movements, I’ve ruled them out.
Then I look at recent performance, and while they were low back when I wasn’t looking, now they’re at or near all time highs. Crap. Well, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve come late to a party. Anybody else have thoughts?
