Dementia has a Macroeconomic impact since millions of people are affected and it’s very expensive to care for them.

We have already discussed on METAR how hearing loss correlates with an increased risk of dementia but hearing aids reduce the risk.

It’s not surprising that a similar sensory deprivation, cataracts in the lens of the eyes, is also correlated with a 25% increased risk of dementia. Cataract surgery to replace the lens reduces the risk to the same as people without cataracts.

I bought hearing aids when I read about the first issue. I’m already scheduled to have cataract surgery in May.

Keep us posted. I saw the eye doc last month. She said I'm about three years away from cataract surgery.

I bought hearing aids when I read about the first issue. I’m already scheduled to have cataract surgery in May.

I had this done just over 3 years ago, prior to open heart surgery at age 88.

My reading has improved to 20/20, and has been sustained. I'm now functioning well other than reading glasses at age 91.

Don't avoid the surgery.

The big revelation when they took the bandage off the first eye was how yellowed my eyesight had gotten. The world was amazingly blue!

Everything will be a LOT BRIGHTER after the surgery on both eyes, so expect to turn the brightness on all devices down quite a bit. It is quite surprising to discover how much of a change you experience (before vs after surgery).
