* YouTube made up nearly 10% of all viewership on connected and traditional TVs in the U.S. in May, according to Nielsen. Netflix ranked second, claiming 7.6% of viewership.

* “We’re not talking about your mobile phone, your laptop ... but on the biggest screen in the house, the TV,” said LightShed media analyst Rich Greenfield. “Every [media] executive has to be paying attention.”

* Media companies such as Netflix, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery don’t have a uniform strategy to deal with the threat.

Remarkable...

My 81 year old father spends his days cruising YT from his recliner watching on a massive home theater setup. Not exactly the consumer profile you think of first but perhaps...

And from the investing angle. We have something called an RESP (Registered Education Savings Plan) tax deferred savings plan for a child's education, where I'm from.

Last couple of annual contributions to my grandaughter's plan have gone exclusively to GOOGL purchases. Who knows what the future holds but at present, my grandaughter likely has enough for 2 maybe more, years of tuition and books at a Canadian university.

She's currently 3 years old, turning 4 at the end of August.

Thank you to both Jim Mungofitch at the Brk board (a while ago) and Tecmo here and there, on an ongoing basis. I appreciate, very much, your ongoing analysis and feedback. Keep up the good work, sincerely!

Could be a Costco dirty garlic dog (yum) or a cheap bottle of Zinfandel in it for you(highly rated "plonk" of course), at some point in the future, your choice! ;-)

Cheers,

Rick (the dividend centric value investor, who is trying to incorporate more growth, with a value bent)

The RESP is a very attractive investment account - keep maximizing it!!

Since your kids are 3 and 4; you have A LOT OF TIME before funds will be needed - I would be more aggressive than usual.

Interesting & well done! You got me thinking and I opened up a Fidelity 529 plan (NH plan that mirrors the S&P) for my kids in 2011 & 2013 which I tried to front load. They are up ~160% with 7 years until college and, honestly, we’ve quit contributing in the last 2-3 years.

Big fan of GOOG buy & hold- initial lots from nearly 20 years ago (11/05) are up 1750%, just wish we had bought more back then! We’ve added in weakness & never sold a share. As others have mentioned, my kids watch YouTube & shorts on the big screen daily and quite often (too much) on iPads.

I imagine revenue & earnings will beat today as as they have over the last several quarters. Market reaction? Who the heck knows!
