charging for your thoughts it would be very interesting to read what motivated you to leave the old Fools board and start your own site. As you know, I was always a fan, but I would hate to tell the story, since it was your choice. On this board I have confidence that posts won't be deleted and I believe others would be interested as well. Either way, thanks for sharing your thoughts for the past 20 years, hc.

He posted here for a short spell. Same thing happened - he got into a spat with someone and went off in a huff.

You might not recall I tried to convince rw to continue to post and to ignore the kaka roaches and fruitcakes who post on every board but he had enough and moved on.

Readers can judge for themselves whether there is anything here egregious enough to warrant a response of leaving permanently.

Whatever the offending situation is, just take a break from it. Naturally and inevitably you will cool down over time. You can then choose to return, or not. Either way, there is nothing to be gained by a public announcement.
Zooming out to an even more general principle. Irreversible decisions should be made only after very careful and long deliberation. Whereas reversible decisions can be made much more frequently and quickly. If a reversible decision turns out to be a mistake, you can always change course and in the process you would have learned something new.

“ If a reversible decision turns out to be a mistake, you can always change course and in the process you would have learned something new.“ Hi, thanks for the reply. rw responded to me yesterday, privately. These message boards can be very brutal. everyone has their own tolerance for BS and questionable behavior. The history of the boards for the past 25 years hasn’t always been pheasant, not just brkb. In general. ☮️

Baybrooke, logically and unemotionally you of course are right. But I think there is a psychological factor behind such that is easily overlooked, the subconscious(!) motivation for the public announcement: If one is not that sure whether to really do X or not, deep down has doubts, it's a strategy to get over any such doubts and force oneself to do what one announced. This removes any cognitive dissonance, replaces doubts by conviction, and this way fulfills a (psychological) purpose.

To explain my maybe confused words: If you are a little boy, on a hot summer day with your pals in a public swimming area, tempted to jump from the super-high 10m jump but at the same time scared to do it, announce to your pals "I will jump from the 10m jump!". Then you have to do it.
It might not be rational, but it fulfills a purpose (and that way it actually is rational).

I found public announcements of people leaving Xitter to be very useful, because they were coming from people I respected and was interested in hearing from. They also served as a frequent reminder that the site had, in fact, become a Nazi Bar awash in every type of far-right disinformation, lies, and manipulation possible, fully supported by the site's owner. I was glad to finally leave permanently after seeing too many people I respected do the same. The Fediverse is far better.
