...when the Civil War was fought and ended, the media would have been screaming he was mentally unfit to be president.

TRUMP: "If you look at the end of the Civil War -- the 1800s, it was a very turbulent time. If you take the end day -- was it 1869? Or whatever."

This guy is an idiot who thinks he's a genius. The trouble is, the cult thinks so, too, and they're destroying America.

The word those of you who are not cultists are looking for right now is 'imbecile.'

I was never very good at remembering historical dates. Granted, the Civil War is a foundational event in American history, so I know it ended in the 1860s but that's as precise as I could get. I'd bet at least 80% of Congress wouldn't know the exact date, and probably 98% of the U.S. population doesn't know it either.

But the exact end is somewhat debatable? The last (land) battle was fought on May 13, 1865, at the Battle of Palmito Ranch in Texas. On June 19, 1865 (now known as Juneteenth), Union Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger announced General Order No. 3, bringing the Emancipation Proclamation into effect in Texas and freeing the last slaves of the Confederacy. But legally, the war did not end until August 20, 1866, when President Johnson issued a proclamation that declared "that the said insurrection is at an end and that peace, order, tranquility, and civil authority now exist in and throughout the whole of the United States of America"

And oops, I left out the apparent historically agreed upon actual end date:

On May 26, 1865, Confederate Lt. Gen. Simon B. Buckner, acting for Edmund Smith, signed a military convention surrendering Confederate forces in the Trans-Mississippi Department.[210][211] This date is often cited by contemporaries and historians as the effective end date of the war.
